Wheels for Warmth 2022
Our cornerstone event will be here in less than a month, and we hope you can join us to take part in this wonderful program that helps so many of our neighbors.
Wheels for Warmth was founded by Governor Phil Scott in 2005. Good tires are donated by community members and businesses, inspected by DMV, and placed in the yard organized by size to be sold. Junk tires cost $5 per tire to dispose of, and are placed in a junk pile to be sent out to be recycled. Once the tire collection is complete, we host a tire sale and the inspected tires are sold for between $15 and $30 a piece.

October 27, 28 & 29
Volunteers Needed!
We need volunteers to help with tire collection by greeting donors and arranging tires from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th.

We are also looking for volunteers on Saturday, October 29th to guide customers through the process of selecting and purchasing tires. Customers may also need help getting tires to their cars. Don't worry if you don't know much about tires - we have knowledgeable people on site who can help answer any questions that may arise.
Our tire sale is always a good time. Saturday morning flies by, with set-up beginning at 4:30 am, a local radio station arrives and broadcasts music that keeps the crowd going, and the fire pit and warming hut provide comfortable spaces for taking a break and socializing. Community volunteers help tire shoppers, breakfast is served, a cookout is held for lunch, and tires fly out of the lot during the fast-paced sale that is full of energy.
Thank you for your continued support of this event. Your participation allows us to make a positive impact on our communities, and we couldn't do it without you!

Pittsford Days
Touch a Truck Event was a Hit
Kids were welcomed to the Touch A Truck event during Pittsford Days a couple of weeks ago.
This little person was up in the rig, and Lara Bitler grabbed the CB and said, "That's a big 10-4 good buddy!" and the kid then grabbed the CB and said, "That's a big 10-4 rubber ducky!" Priceless!

Safety Topic: Accidents on the Job
This past month, we had more accidents reported than any other month. Many of the accidents could have been prevented, had the time been taken to identify existing hazards prior to executing tasks.

Make sure you are aware of motorists on the road (give yourself enough time to get from point A to point B so you don't have to rush), understand your limitations (ask for help when needed), and continue to bring up Good Catches and Near Misses with other crew members and your supervisors.

We should all follow our "see something, say something" policy. Be sure to mention concerns when discussing what needs to be done, and bring newer members of the crew up to speed if they are unfamiliar with the jobsite. Even if you are new or inexperienced, it is better to be wrong than to say nothing and let an accident happen.
Can you answer the question from this week's safety discussion?
Who has the responsibility to stop work for safety reasons?
Superintendent
Foreman
Anyone who believes work is not being performed safely
