There is a moment in almost every doll-making project when confidence quietly leaves the room.
For me, it usually arrives when it's time to make the art doll's hands.
Hands are one of the smallest yet most expressive parts of an art doll. Because they are so small, have tiny joints and delicate curves, these expressive shapes demand precision.
The slight imbalance reveals every construction flaw.
The challenge is to create a form delicate enough to look natural, in the proper scale, and yet be strong enough to survive turning, stuffing, and years of handling.
