The mail arrives, and your eyes are immediately drawn to two words emblazoned in yellow: Juror Summons. Apart from fulfilling a civic duty, you now get to be involved in one of the most important parts of the American legal system.

While the Florida Division of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles selects prospective jurors from a randomized pool, your Clerk’s office handles the day-to-day management of jury service here in Palm Beach County, from mailing summons to issuing juror ID’s and validating parking.

Sometimes your summons to jury duty conflicts with important moments in your life that you can’t reschedule. Life is busy, we get it.

Postponement of Jury Duty. Potential jurors are entitled to two postponements that together do not exceed six months from the original summons date. For example, if your original summons date is March 1, you could postpone once for a month and once more if needed to a date no later than September 1. Simply submit your request on our Jury website or call 561-355-2930.

Excusals from Jury Duty. Some people may be excused from jury duty if they fall into certain categories, such as full-time students between 18 and 21 years of age and those 70 years old or older, expectant mothers, parents not working full-time with custody of a child under 6 years of age or those responsible for the care of a person who is medically or mentally incapacitated, full-time law enforcement officers with arresting powers or if you’ve reported for jury service in Palm Beach County within one year of the date for which you’ve been summoned again.

Those who do not live in Palm Beach County or are not legal residents of the United States are not eligible to serve on a jury.

We have two ways to submit a request for excusal: through our Jury Web portal, or by calling 561-355-2930 and selecting option 1. Make sure you have your Juror ID number or driver license number as required.

Our team works hard to make sure your jury duty experience is as comfortable and as convenient as possible for you, including giving you flexibility in your service.

You can always reach the Clerk’s office at one of our five locations in addition to accessing us online 24 hours a day.
