Monthly News & Updates

February 2026 | Issue 51

Every Brain Matters (EBM) is a nonprofit that began as a project of Parents Opposed to Pot and was developed by Aubree Adams after witnessing firsthand the harm caused by the normalization of marijuana in her own family and community. Through education, advocacy, and compassionate support, EBM raises awareness about the real risks of THC—so no family has to face this struggle alone.

In this February newsletter, you’ll find ready-to-use resources to share with your communities, including a spotlight article, educational graphics, and ways to advocate for public health and safety.

If you feel called to take action or raise your voice alongside Every Brain Matters and the Parent Action Network, please contact us at info@everybrainmatters.org.

Together, we can protect families and build a healthier future—because Every Brain Truly Matters. 🧠

*Throughout this newsletter, the terms “marijuana” and “cannabis” are used interchangeably.

Spotlight

Marijuana legalization was once sold as a win-win: eliminate dangerous black markets, free up law enforcement resources, and generate tax revenue. But what if the reality is far darker than the promise? In “How Organized Crime Hijacked the Promise of Marijuana Legalization,” Every Brain Matters pulls back the curtain on what’s really happening behind America’s legal cannabis experiment — from rampant illegal grow operations tied to international criminal networks to the unintended consequences that threaten public health and safety.

This eye-opening article doesn’t just expose a hidden threat — it equips you with clear, evidence-based insights and powerful visuals (including the infographic below) to help you understand how weak regulation and commercialization have created opportunities for organized crime, rather than shutting them down. Whether you’re a parent, educator, policymaker, or concerned citizen, this is essential reading for anyone who cares about protecting families and communities from the harms of marijuana normalization.

Every Brain Matters is committed to giving you the tools and resources you need to discourage marijuana legalization, foster informed community discussions, and support policies that prioritize public health, safety, and truth. Dive into the full article — and then use the infographic and accompanying community education materials to spark meaningful change where you live.

Statement: Attorney General Labrador and Seven States Raise Concerns About Federal Marijuana Rescheduling

The Every Brain Matters community is grateful to the Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador and six other state attorneys general who recently raised thoughtful concerns about the federal marijuana rescheduling process and its potential impacts on public health and safety. Their engagement highlights the importance of community voices in shaping drug policy conversations that affect brain health and well-being Link to statement

AAF: Don’t Reschedule Marijuana

We’re monitoring all sides of the national conversation on federal marijuana policy — including voices like Advancing American Freedom, which recently urged policymakers not to support rescheduling marijuana at the federal level as part of broader debates over public health, safety, and community values. Their perspective adds context to the complex discussions underway about how drug policy impacts individuals, families, and communities across the country.  Link to statement

The Voices of Marijuana's Harms

Every Brain Matters offers evidence-based, compassionate presentations designed to help families, educators, legislators, and communities navigate the realities of today’s potent commercial marijuana landscape. Led by Director and Advocate Aubree Adams, these presentations combine lived experience with current research to provide clear information, practical guidance, and supportive resources. Hope For Recovery

We understand that families often feel isolated in a world where marijuana use is becoming increasingly normalized. Supporting a loved one who is affected by marijuana can be overwhelming. To assist you, we have created recovery resources for families that will help you navigate this new era of widespread marijuana use. We aim to help you discover healing pathways, gain valuable recovery tools, and build healthier relationships. We invite you to attend our family support meetings and utilize the resources available to you. All the meetings we offer are located under the meeting tab on our website.

We’re honored to highlight Raquel Watkins-Jones, a professional coach and passionate advocate for parents and teens, who is dedicated to strengthening families, guiding adolescents through healthy self-discovery, and supporting recovery. Through her work with Rockstar Parenting™, Rockstar Teens™, and youth empowerment programs, Raquel equips families with practical tools to build resilience, confidence, and a lasting legacy rooted in wellbeing.

Join Our Support Meetings!

On February 11, we invite you to attend our meeting featuring Tim Scott.

Tim will share his personal journey through marijuana-induced psychosis, recovery, and long-term stability. His memoir, A Story That Must Be Told: A Memoir of Marijuana-Induced Psychosis, reflects on his lived experience and the lessons he continues to learn along his mental health journey. Join us for an honest and meaningful conversation focused on awareness, healing, and hope. Register for this meeting here or by clicking the image below.

Join our bi-weekly online support group led by a licensed professional counselor for families impacted by a loved one’s marijuana use. This compassionate, confidential space offers practical recovery tools and peer support for challenges such as addiction, psychosis, and other harmful behaviors. Families learn the 3 C’s of addiction—we didn’t cause it, can’t control it, and can’t cure it—and explore a hopeful fourth C: how to contribute to healing and strengthen relationships. Whether you’re just beginning or well into the journey, all are welcome. Donations are appreciated but never required. Learn more here.

Moment of Silence

The Every Brain Matters Memorial is a place of honor, healing, and remembrance. We celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost and stand with the families and friends who carry their love forward. By sharing these stories, we break isolation, reduce stigma, and help others find hope and support.

Our memorial publicly remembers the life-changing effects of marijuana and serves as a reminder of why we continue this critical fight.

If you’d like to add your loved one to the Memorial, we welcome their story—in your words. Please share a photo, a favorite memory, and anything that captures who they are. Please reach out to us to submit your tribute at this link, or email us at info@everybrainmatters.org, and we’ll be honored to include it. Your voice is essential and may inspire change in others. Together, we can advocate for a better future.
