Hot V • 12”x12” • Encaustic/Mixed Media

I’ve often spoken about my process of sharing my thoughts and emotions wordlessly through my work. One day, as a bout of nagging pain was causing me to feel highly frustrated, I reached for something that needed to be worked hard into the many soft layers of wax on top of hard wood. 

After preparing a smooth surface, hammering nails into the wax and wood gave me a great sense of control and satisfaction!

Later on, as the pain subsided, I found myself reaching for something softer, rounder, and more familiar to my ongoing theme of working with circles.

My latest painting of this series incorporates softer rubber objects that become more integrated with the wax. The pale buttery yellow color with white is more peaceful than nails, hard metals, and encaustic wax. Over time, thankfully, I had moved away from the discomfort and frustration.
