“When one member suffers, all suffer together.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)

On the morning of Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Houston’s East End. The day that began like any other workday of his 35-year U.S. residency had ended in tragedy.

We lament the killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and hold his family and loved ones in prayer.

Lorenzo's life had dignity. He was made in the image of God. He was a husband, a brother, and the father of three United States citizen children. His intrinsic worth was sacred.

Our faith demands we reject the immigration system rooted in fear and violence responsible for his untimely death. An immigration system that betrays the justice and mercy we are called to embody.

In response to this injustice, Texas faith leaders have issued a statement calling for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation; full transparency regarding all federal evidence; meaningful policy change in ICE enforcement operations; and restoration of trust and an end to enforcement that terrorizes communities.

The statement reaffirms the belief that all people, regardless of country of origin, are members of the family of God, saying, “This is a moral wound to our whole community, and we will not look away from it.”

Imani Vida Drum Circle

Imani means Faith in Swahili, and Vida means Life in Spanish. We are a group of diverse individuals from the Greater Houston Area who love coming together in community to make music. We make music through all sorts of percussion instruments...hand drums, shakers, rain sticks, and even the sound of foot-stomping music. Drummers of all skill levels are welcome. No prior drumming experience is required to participate in our circle. Dancers are welcome too! We only ask that you bring your desire to be a part of our community drum circle. Meets 1st Saturday of the Month at Resurrection MCC at 1:30 pm.

Rainbow of Hope 🌈 Narcotics Anonymous meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on our campus in the Gathering Place. This Twelve-Step recovery program offers hope and freedom from active addiction in a safe space for the LGBTQ community. This support group meets regularly in order to help one another learn a new way of life through sharing experiences, strength, and hope. All are welcome to come and learn more.
