In Case You Missed It...

The Second Annual Vines by the Sea Beer and Wine Festival on May 4th was an incredible success. Thank you to everyone that participated and thank you to Grocery Outlet, Coast Central Credit Union, O&M Industries, Tri Counties Bank and Cher-Ae Heights Casino for sponsoring this event to raise funds for our McKinelyville Teen Center!

MemorableMoments

Health Education Specialist Holly, from Public Health, came by the  McKinleyville Teen Center to lead a special workshop on self-esteem  for a combined SMART Girls and Passport to Manhood program. The  workshop included videos, tips on being yourself and being confident,  discussion, questions, and even yoga. Members enjoyed it very much,  and at the end, they each received a $20 Target gift card for  participating. Thank you Holly and Public Health!

Our staff got to participate in an Active Shooter Training, put on by EPD.

Eureka Teen Center's Art Club had a great time making bubble art, learning new techniques and textures.
Our Eureka Teen Center had fun indoor dodgeball game, to help get our teens up and moving for at least 60 minutes a day.

Thank you so much to Calvary Lutheran Church for their continued support and partnership with our Eureka Clubhouse! The Clubhouse members had a fantastic lunch provided by the Church on May 29th, where they also celebrated the retirement of Deacon Suzanne O'Dea.

2019 Club Projects

Lead by, the one and only, John McBeth from O&M Industries, our Eureka Teen Center Building Renovation project has gained lots of momentum! From windows and framing, painting and electrical, to heating and plumbing, flooring and even a new parking lot, our local business community has been extremely supportive in donating their precious time and in some cases materials too!

Our Clubhouse had quite a few touch ups last month by the some of our parents, including a new kitchen ceiling and new flowers in the front yard.  W e are still looking to repaint the interior walls, replace the dirt/patches of grass with AstroTurf  or rubber matting.

In partnership with McKinleyville Community Service District, our McKinleyville Teen Center has a beautiful sound proof music room. We are looking to beef up our instrument collection and put in recording equipment, so that our youth can learn and enjoy making their own work of art.

If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, please contact our administrative office at (707) 441.1030.

Youth of the Month
Johnny
Johnny is one of our most enthusiastic and helpful members in the older group. Johnny is a fantastic leader and is always willing to participate in all activities, no matter what they are. Johnny gives 110% every day at Club, doing homework, helping others, playing games, leading activities, or participating in programs.Johnny loves taking care of his chickens, playing tabletop card games, and teaching Pokemon to new enthusiasts. He has previously been named Youth of the Month, and he has been so helpful, kind, generous, and engaged, we decided he needed to be Youth of the Month again. Good job Johnny!

Program Assistant
Lydia
Hi my name is Lydia Morris. I moved here from the San Francisco last summer. I worked as a Teaching Artist in San Francisco, as well as a teacher's aide in a Special Day Class. I am a creative person. I enjoy all sorts of creative expressions, painting, drawing, ceramics, print making, and sculpture. I like painting birds in flight, I have been practicing portrait painting and I love flowers. I also enjoy cooking, and baking. For fun I play Ukulele. Bob Marley songs are my favorite. I am so glad that I moved here. I feel lucky to be able to go to the beach as often as I want, and also to meet all of you.
