Issue #119, October 2017
Welcome to the October edition of Dynamic Sensors & Calibration Tips. Here's a quick public service announcement for our readers who find themselves Stateside (aside from Hawaii and parts of Arizona) - remember to turn your clocks back an hour on Saturday evening. We are committed to helping you make precision measurements in all their forms - no matter whether they are related to vibration or time!
Understanding Sound Power: Measurements and Standards

We welcome PCB Acoustics Expert, Dr. Chad Walber, back this month to explain methodologies for measuring sound, sound intensity measurements, and ISO standards for sound power. These measurements are made to optimize products, meet legal and occupational health standards, or adhere to government directives . Just as in Part 1, Dr. Walber brings a straightforward approach to a complex topic...

Tip of the Month

You certainly wouldn't skip the annual calibration on your instrument, so why skip the annual calibration on your measurement process? Participating in interlaboratory comparisons for accelerometer calibration builds confidence, helps you avoid costly problems, and can prevent embarrassing customer recalls. Click to learn more about our Interlaboratory Comparison Program.  It's part of our ongoing commitment to the technical community.

Blast from the Past:
Summary on Discharge Time Constant

New users of piezoelectric (PE) type accelerometers are always fascinated with the concept of zero biased response. Maybe it's the general prevalence of slow speed, static type measurements, or maybe it's the dominance of "mechanical oriented" people in the vibration test/measurement field, but AC coupled operation is always a question of early intrigue. The discussion of AC coupling, discharge time constants (DTC), and system operation inevitably follows.
