This is my February blog...no, let's make it March if I get'r done today!
When life throws you a curve it is time for a new composition style.....
2015 has started off to be a year of new adventures....unplanned but necessary. My Mom had a series of small stokes leaving her left side weakened. After time in the hospital and rehabilitation she was released to home. However, when you are "getting up there" home alone in MN in the winter is not the safest plan. My brothers (3) and I put our heads together and checked out possibilities.
Fast forward.... and she is safely settled in a comfortable condo with two yummy meals each day, and all the help she needs including a physical and occupational therapy team gifted in problem solving. She is having to learn how to safely do normal things of life all over again. Her perseverance and determination are lessons I can take back to the easel!
All this to say, if the "normal" way of doing things isn't working maybe it is time to mix it up and problem solve.
When was the last time you considered a composition change? I generally work in a square format and my subject is the primary emphasis. What if I consider a new size or composition?

If I always paint bright...what if I paint only in black and white?
Ok...since I have been carving big "S" turns in the snow during my play time....what if I take this motion to a tall canvas. Looking through my Pintrest board called Composition:"S" I see an amazing kitty "pin" forming a wonderful "S" composition with head down to the swish of the tail.
Then, looking through my own recent paintings I can carve an "S" composition holding the eye on a path through the painting. Both the pandas and the French Bulldog are examples.
