A Note from our Executive Director

Dear Lori,

I’m really limiting my news intake these days. For my own mental health, as well as for the well-being of my family and my team, I find it helps to focus on the positive.

There is so much to be grateful for! It feels like LEAP is surfing a wave of positive energy. Our most recent Family Fiesta was a joy. Our Lompoc construction is moving forward, and it’s so exciting to see the progress we’re making toward doubling the number of Infant and Toddler childcare spaces there.

We recently received a grant from the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara, which lifted our spirits. There were also two news broadcasts that I made sure to watch. LEAP was recently featured in segments on both KEYT and KSBY.

If you’d like to see what all those good feelings are about, please come visit. We’d love to share our work with you.

Commemorating and Celebrating Juneteenth

In observance of Juneteenth this year, all of LEAP's offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery, marking a significant moment in American history.

Photo: Our families learned all about Juneteenth at our recent Family Fiesta, where families and staff came together to play educational games and share a delicious Juneteenth inspired meal.
