Field Trip

Community Center Youth Enjoy Enriching Activities
Thanks to generous volunteers and community partners, this summer more than 75 youth benefited from the structured learning environment at UCM's two community centers. They enjoyed special field trips including to Wolf Trap Farm Park and museums -- including a visit from our Congressman Don Beyer -- plus other enrichment activities that kept their young minds active.  Read more >>

We all know the value of a good education. A big part of academic success is having the right supplies -- which can be expensive, especially for families who are struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to generous community support, more than 500 eager students registered with UCM started the school year with a new backpack full of grade-appropriate school supplies.   Read more >>

Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) Award

Congratulations, Ana!
Ana Moran, UCM Stepping Stones Counselor, was honored with a 2017 NCS Distinguished Partner Award at the recent Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services' Partners and Staff Recognition Ceremony. These annual awards honor individuals and organizations who assist NCS in fulfilling its mission of bringing people and resources together to strengthen the well-being of individuals and communities -- and who go above and beyond the expectations of a traditional colleague, partner, or contractor. UCM welcomed Tonya Bailey as new Deputy Executive Director in July. "We are thrilled to have Tonya and her expertise on our UCM team," says Alison DeCourcey, UCM Executive Director. "Her enthusiasm and proven leadership in program management and oversight, continuous quality improvement, and impact measurement are critical skills that will be invaluable as we seek to improve our service to clients, with the goal of ending multi-generational poverty in our community." BB&T CVCC Two groups of BB&T Insurance Services team members recently volunteered at the UCM food pantry and hosted a fun-filled summer picnic for families and youth at the UCM Creekside Village Community Center.  Read more >>
