Volume VIII, August 2021
B-Town Jazz Festival and Summer Concerts
Dear Friends

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Indianapolis Zoo despite a short thunderstorm interruption - what a great space to share music and Zackary Herzig kept stealing the show with his Cyr Wheel artistry.

Just as we celebrate getting back together, there is also frightening news about surging infection numbers and new restrictions. As a teenager, I was always struck by Joan Baez's rendition of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" where she laments the never-ending circle of men dying as soldiers. She sings: "When will they ever learn" - I'm begging everyone who physically can and has access, please get vaccinated. It's the only way we can break this vicious cycle of people dying and new virus adaptions, of getting isolated, missing and loosing loved ones, our livelihoods and our sanity.

Band Directors - as you gather the repertoire for the new school year consider one of my originals arranged for High School band, here is the link to the FJH catalogue with lots more cool stuff for the new school year. And Indiana Elementary School Teachers - the Indiana Jazz Masters in the School videos with lots of lesson plans and teaching ideas are live on the B'town Jazz website, a free resource thanks to the support of the Smithville Charitable Foundation.

Below is the upcoming performance calendar - looking forward to the B'town Jazz Festival, our Bryan Park feature and upcoming Sheroes tour.
See you soon
