In early May public talks focusing on equity and inclusion in our communities was given by john a. powell of the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society (Haas Institute). Thank you for attending one or more of these public talks and signing up to stay connected. We are reaching out to let you know a little more about who and what we are.
Who We Are
Equity Alliance of the North Coast (formerly Our North Coast) was created in collaboration with community partners and staffed by Humboldt Area Foundation (HAF). Equity Alliance of the North Coast (Equity Alliance) is an initiative focused on understanding and improving racial and social equity through education, dialogue, and coaching opportunities for organizations and individuals.
Our goal in changing the name of this initiative to Equity Alliance of the North Coast is to build clarity around what we are trying to achieve and to acknowledge the collaboration of various community partners who help guide it forward.
Where We Are Now
The conversations that began in May are continuing. We were thrilled to find so many members of our community interested - and not only in the topics presented - but also in becoming an active part of transforming the communities we belong to.
The Equity Alliance is currently focused on:
- Public Events: Join us on Monday, September 19 for FREE public talks with Julie Nelson, Dwayne Marsh, and Brenda Anibarro: Advancing Equity through a Racial Lens: Putting Theory into Action. See 'Upcoming Community Events' on the right for details on this event and other opportunities for the community.
- Institutional Transformation Coaching Series: Equity Alliance has been working with self-selected organizations, institutions, and collaboratives of various sizes and sectors to participate in a 6-part coaching series led by the Government Alliance on Race & Equity (GARE), a joint project of the Haas Institute and the Center for Social Inclusion (CSI). The series begins on September 20, 2016. To learn more about it, click here!
- Additional Opportunities: We are exploring a parallel coaching series focused on community engagement with Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (LEDA). In addition, we are assessing interest in public workshops on race, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Stay tuned for more on these potential opportunities!
