Do You Know Where Your Data Lives?

Here’s a question I hear all the time: Where’s my stuff?

In this case, your “stuff” refers to your files (documents and/or folders), some of which may be on your computer, while others may reside on servers that may be halfway around the globe. But let’s take it back to the beginning; your computer has an internal hard drive (storage), a piece of hardware that can hold your data, but has a finite capacity. This is where a lot of your bits and bytes on your computer are stored – including the system files that make the computer work, the application files, and yes, your data files. Maybe.

The Apple Watch Files: Vol. 2

OK, I unboxed my Apple Watch (and did NOT post it on Instagram!).

As I mentioned last month, I bought the Apple Watch for its health and workout functions. I've been using it for my running, as way track my workouts and heart rate. I'm not using it for making/receiving calls, texting, ApplePay at the store (I'm not THAT lazy!), or any other purpose. I'm wearing it for now (it's actually quite comfortable), but once I get used to it, I'll save it for my physical activity.

Plus, I can fool around with the settings, and learn more about this part of the Apple universe, although I can say not too many of my clients are wearing one. Or at least not requiring any help for it!

June's Quick Tip: Typing Symbols

Quick Tip

Do need to know how to type obscure symbols into your documents? There is a way to see what keys you need to press in order to get all sorts of foreign currency symbols, as well as the standard emojis.

In the menu bar in top of your screen, towards the right (near the Wi-Fi and Date/Time), you'll see Keyboard Viewer. Click on it, and you'll have two choices:

• Show Emoji & Symbols

• Show Keyboard Viewer

If you select the first option, you'll see Apple's standard emojis, a collection that is constantly being tweaked by Apple. The second option will show you a map of the keyboard. The below graphic shows you the standard layout. If you press the SHIFT key, you'll see the letters as caps. But by pressing the OPTION key, or OPTION + SHIFT keys, you'll see an array of different symbols that might be useful for you.

News You Can Use!

Happenings in the Apple and tech world that will no doubt impact you!

In nine days (June 9, 2025), Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) kicks off - a lot of pomp and circumstance and tech mumbo jumbo for most, but if you're interested in the latest Apple technology, it's worth watching. Time saving tip: Wait until it's over, and look on YouTube for a user to post an edited version.

⚖️ Mark July 2, 2025 on your calendar if you're a litigious type - that's the deadline to file in a class action lawsuit related to SIRI and unattended SIRI activation in the final few months of 2024. Check out the deets here.

⌚️ If you were waiting for a Dick Tracey-style watch with a camera on it, you'll have to look further afield than Cupertino. Seems that Apple has given up on this piece of technology, at least for now. Read about this development here.
