The Resurrection is Not Just a Metaphor
From Bishop Holcomb
For Christians, resurrection isn't just a way of expressing a spiritual truth. We believe that something unique in human history happened when Jesus rose from the dead.
The resurrection of Jesus is a central tenet of the Christian faith. One of the earliest creeds (concise summaries of Christian beliefs), the Nicene Creed, declares the following about Jesus:
For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.

THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 5:30 PM
Maundy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday, we hear John’s powerful account of Jesus’ last meal with his friends. We witness the Lord and Teacher washing the feet of his disciples. We remember His “new” commandment (Maundy being the Latin word for commandment) “that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” Janie Gould will play The Holy City as a prelude on the piano. The choir will sing "O Savior of the World" by John Goss (1800-1880).
FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2 PM
Stations of the Cross
The fourteen Stations of the Cross will be visited in the Sanctuary. The readings and prayers are presented in pamphlets both in regular and large print. Attendees have the option of following the cross as it moves from station to station, or remaining in the pews. Verses from the Stabat Mater (Hymnal 159) are sung between stations. FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 5:30 PM
Good Friday Service
Traditionally a solemn day of fasting and penance, Good Friday commemorates the passion, or suffering and death on the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember the suffering He endured for our sake. We are reminded of the depths of His love for us so that we could receive the gift of eternal life.

SATURDAY, MARCH 30, 7:30 PM (NO 5:30 PM SERVICE)
The Great Vigil of Easter
A new fire is kindled and the Paschal candle lit. Then, on a journey from darkness to light, we hear the history of salvation from the fall in the Garden of Eden, to the new hope that comes with Jesus’ resurrection. Our Easter joy is crowned as we gather around Jesus’ table to share his life once more in the bread of life and cup of salvation.
The Great Vigil of Easter begins in darkness and ends in profound jubilation in the joy of the resurrection. During the first part of the service, psalms and canticles are alternated with readings from scripture. The anthem for the Vigil is "Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain," by Eric Thiman (1900-1975).

Connections: Women's Bible Study Group
Connections is a weekly Bible Study ministry just for women. We will learn from each other, grow in our faith, and develop rich friendships as we study the Bible together in small discussion groups facilitated by a leader. Our time together always includes planned fellowship and prayer. Our next study will focus on the Book of Esther, leading us on a journey to discover the God who hears the cries of his people and remains faithful to his promises.
We will gather on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11 am in the Parish Hall, starting Tuesday, April 9 and continuing through May 14 on a weekly basis until our six-week study of Esther is complete. To reserve your study guide and sign up, contact Valerie Reich

Sunday School
Would your child/grandchild like to engage in games and art using all different kinds of media? St. Augustine's Sunday School meets on all but the first Sunday of the month, during the 10 am service. Children in Kindergarten through 6th grade gather in our classrooms down past the Old Parish Hall, in the education wing of the church. On the first Sunday of the month, kids (who are willing and trained) may serve on the altar, and eventually as readers, ushers, etc. If you have kids, grandkids, neighbors, or anyone that might be interested in Sunday School, please call or text ministry leader Linda Jones at 772.778.7743. If they would like to help serve on the 1st Sunday, please contact Fr. Wes.

Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them,`I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.
JOHN 20:15-18
