New Mask Policy

Fewer people are getting COVID than they were a few months ago. As a result, we are relaxing our masking policies. As of March 18, masks are now optional in all patient care areas except the Infusion Centers at CHA Cambridge and CHA Everett Hospitals, or when you have respiratory symptoms. This applies to all patients, visitors, staff, and providers.

For those who want to keep wearing a mask, they are still available in all our patient care areas.

CHA is one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity!

At CHA, we care about diversity - and it shows! We were recently named one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity by Newsweek, receiving a 5-star rating, the highest possible recognition.

"This award honors CHA and the 5,000 staff and providers who call CHA home," said Michael L. James, CHA’s Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. “While CHA has always valued diversity and health equity, we are increasingly supporting growth opportunities for staff who represent the patients we care for so deeply. By strengthening our representation, we are able to improve the care we provide.”

CHA has a long history as a safe, inclusive place to work and receive care. Other recent awards include being named an "LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader" in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) and being named one of the Best Employers in Massachusetts by Forbes.

You can Prevent Colon Cancer

Colorectal cancer is one of the top five most common cancers, but it’s preventable and treatable if found early. If you are over 45, you can save your life with one of these screenings.

  • Cologuard is a test you can do at home that looks for blood and DNA markers in a stool sample. If you’re at average risk for colon cancer, order a screening kit through CHA’s partnership with Cologuard.

  • iFOB is a test that detects blood in a stool sample for patients at average risk.

  • Colonoscopy is a test done at the hospital. It lets a doctor check your entire large intestine using a thin, flexible tube. They can also painlessly remove any polyps before they turn into colon cancer.

Talk to your doctor about getting screened.

An Extra COVID Vaccine for People Over 65

Last month, the CDC updated their vaccine guidelines. They now recommend that people 65 and older get an additional updated COVID-19 vaccine dose. Older adults have a much greater risk of getting severe disease from COVID-19, and, over time, the effectiveness of vaccines received in the past will diminish.

These new COVID-19 vaccines are now available at the CHA Pharmacy and other local pharmacies.

We May be Texting You

In April, you may start getting health reminders on your phone from a system called Hello World. This may happen if you are overdue for a diabetes visit, a high blood pressure (hypertension) visit, a well child visit, or an annual physical.

These visits are important to your health (or the health of your child). If you hear from us, please call to schedule an appointment. Thanks for being a CHA patient and partnering with us to keep you healthy!

You’re Invited!

Come see Portraits in Primary Care, an art exhibit featuring the works of Dr. Lisa Rechtschaffen from April 25 – June 30. After retiring from over 40 years of practice at CHA, Dr. Rechtschaffen recreated the warmth and admiration between providers and patients through her art. Visit the exhibit at CHA Cambridge Hospital, Healy Building Atrium, 2nd floor and read patient stories accompanying the paintings.
