And other bits of news...
*Interview in the Boston Parents Paper Recently, I was thrilled to be interviewed by the Boston Parents Paper. Here's an excerpt:
What inspired you to begin writing for children?
Well, I write children's books because I love them. I think they are the best books out there; they are what I read in my spare time. Even though I have read many classic adult novels, the books that I read as a child are the ones that I remember and love the most. The children's books are the ones that have made the most impact on me, the least of which is a love of reading. So to me, children's books are the most important books to read as well as write.
Read the rest HERE! *Where the Mountain Meets the Moon...in Hawaii! Honolulu Theatre for Youth is adapting Where the Mountain Meets the Moon for their 2015 season! I'm visiting Hawaii in June for their Seventeenth Biennial Conference on Literature and Hawaii's Children and I *think* I might be seeing a sneak preview. If not, maybe I'll go back to Hawaii next year...I can dream, can't I?
*Mighty Girl Pick of the Day I was honored that The Ugly Veget ables was recently chosen as a Mighty Girl Pick of the Day! If you don't know A Mighty Girl, check them out. April Giveaway for newsletter subscribers
The response to February's giveaway was truly lovely. Even though I planned on sending only one copy of the Chinese edition of Starry River of the Sky, I ended up sending three (and I probably would've sent more but that was all I had!). Here's an example of one of winning entries:
...What a GREAT opportunity it would be for my kids to read this book in Chinese WITH their grandparents (my in-laws who are Taiwanese)! It would be a wonderful multi-generational experience... the kids would get to share their grandparents' native tongue, and their grandparents would get to enjoy a culturally relevant story that their grandchildren have read. I can honestly say that we have never had the opportunity to do something like that in our family. It would be a special treat. So you can see why it was so hard just to send one copy!
For the APRIL NEWSLETTER GIVEAWAY I'm giving away a Korean edition of Starry River of the Sky!
So, if you or someone you'd like to give the book to can read Korean, enter this month's giveaway! Same rules as the February giveaway-- if you'd like to this Korean edition (just to be clear as some were confused last time. This book is NOT in English, it is in Korean!) of Starry River of the Sky e-mail gracelin.manager@gmail.com TODAY with: 1. your mailing address (so I know where to send it!) 2. one reason why you want the book Please put the APRIL NEWSLETTER GIVEAWAY in the subject header. 행운을 빌어 요! |
Letter of the month!
Did I mention I'm finally caught up on my mail? I'm very proud of myself...I had letters dating back from 2012! But I've created a new system which means letter will now be answered much more timely. If you haven't received a response from a 2013 letter that means I lost your address or letter in my move! Very sorry! And in my recent mail, there was a letter from a high school student who came to one of my first booksignings, more than ten years ago. She sent me photos--it happened when she was four years old! She's going to come to the Where the Mountain Meets the Moon performance and I can't wait to meet her again. I adore meeting readers who grew up with my books, though it does make me feel a bit old! If you'd like to contact me, the fastest way to reach me is through my facebook page (unfortunately, I do not e-mail kids. Sorry!) but you can also send me a letter at: Grace Lin PO Box 60334 Florence, MA 01062

Happy Spring! See you in May!
