Where the Spirit Moves

This weekend is Pentecost, one of the major feasts in the life of the Church. It’s when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit to the early followers of the risen Jesus fifty days (pentecost is Greek for fifty) after Passover. Acts tells the dramatic story, which we will once again read with extra flare, so come to church this weekend ready for excitement.

For many of us, Pentecost is one of the few times all year that we think much about the Spirit. Jesus is our focus the vast majority of the time, and through him we come to know what God the Father is like, too, but the Spirit remains somewhat off to the side, strange and mysterious. It need not be so.

A few weeks ago, I preached on the Paraclete, which is how Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John (14:15-18). Paraclete can be translated in lots of way, including comforter, advocate, and even ally. Pentecost Sunday

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Pentecost at all three Eucharists: Saturday at 5:30pm and Sunday at 9:00am and 11:15am. There will be the reading of Acts in many tongues and triumphant music as we celebrate the birth of the Church in the world. Make plans to be with us for this important day in our lives as disciples.

Popsicles in the Park

This Sunday, May 24, Figs With Kids will host Popsicles in the Park on the church playground at 11:15am! Families are invited to gather for popsicles, playtime, and a little time to relax together. It’s a fun, casual way to celebrate the Pentecost, the start of summer and let the kids enjoy the playground with friends.

DOK & St. Hilda's Thank You

Former President Obama said, “Reading is the gateway that makes all other learning possible.” Both the Daughters of the King and St. Hilda's Guild thank you for opening the gates wide for another successful book drive! Our Food Pantry families were thrilled to see the beautiful collection of books donated by you! Books children will read again and again. All the journals, jump ropes, bubbles and popsicles topped off the event, adding lots of fun to distribution day.

EMF Fish Fry & Silent Auction

June 7

The Episcopal Men’s Fellowship will host their famous fish fry and silent auction on Sunday, June 7!

In addition to the regular auction items in the auction, the Cork Pull returns this year. To make the Cork Pull possible we need multiple donations of a couple of bottles of wine Bring your donation to the EMF table in the Gathering Space or the Church Library. Coming Up at the Fig

Dallas Area Interfaith Forum

Join us for a two-part class beginning next Sunday, May 31 and June 7, from 10:15-11am in the Parlor, as we welcome Walker Moore, Lead Organizer of Dallas Area Interfaith (DAI). He will use the story of Exodus and the journey of Israel out of bondage in Egypt to explore how we can effectively organize in a time of polarization and despair. DAI works to bring people of faith together from around the area to pursue the common good. Transfiguration is a member congregation, along with nearly 40 other churches and organizations.

Dallas Pride Festival & Parade Sign-up

The Dallas Pride Celebration is just 2-weeks away on Saturday, June 6 in Downtown Dallas. Open Door is leading the effort for the Fig to host a float in the parade and a booth at the festival. We need you to sign-up now to help us be a light in the Dallas community! We need folks who will help set-up and break-down our Festival Booth, staff the booth and provide information to those who stop by, and ride and march in the Parade. Register below and stop by our table in the Gathering Space, purchase a tee-shirt, and sign-up.

For those who have already signed up, please note that the Parade meet-up is now at 5:00pm Saturday downtown or at the Spring Valley Dart Station at 4:00pm.

Opportunities for You

Join the Nominating Committee

All members of Transfiguration are invited to serve on the 2026 Nominations Committee. This committee nominates a slate of four members for election to next year's Vestry and six candidates who will serve as delegates to Diocesan Convention. Service on this committee requires attending 4-6 meetings through the summer and fall and assisting with parish elections in November. If you are interested in serving, let us know.

Support our kids at Vacation Bible School by donating snacks. You can bring your donations to the tower cloister from this Sunday until May 31.

Please donate individually wrapped snacks like Goldfish, Cheez-its, fruit snacks, or granola bars.

We are also looking for old magazines to use at our Snowmountain Challenge craft station.

Children's Chapel

Each Sunday we host Children’s Chapel where kids are able to experience scripture, prayer, song, and worship in a way they can understand and enjoy. Children are able to attend this service while parents attend the regular Sunday Holy Eucharist at 9:00am. We meet on in the Gathering Space prior to the service.
