Connecting Kids with Nature
The Adler Education Fund Draws Enthusiastic Support
Conservation Collaboration Agreement at Mangini Preserve. Photo by Ted Clement

At the core of our educational mission lies the belief that one must love nature to want to preserve it. In January 2023, we created the Adler Education Fund, which was initiated by a $100,000 challenge grant from renowned educator, Judy Adler.

The goal of the fund is to support Save Mount Diablo’s education programs, both existing and new.

One of the new education programs the fund will support is the creation of a curriculum that inspires a love of nature within elementary-school-aged children.

This curriculum will also connect Save Mount Diablo with schools to promote environmental awareness and eco-stewardship of Diablo’s natural lands.

Since its creation, generous local donors have contributed to this mission, taking us closer and closer to our goal of creating and sharing this curriculum.

Planning any hikes? This is a fantastic time of year to do it. Mount Diablo's hills are on the verge of blooming in a spectacular fashion.

Right now, there are already plenty of early bloomers visible on Mount Diablo (despite the snow!) and throughout the state of California.

Though it's possible to find fields of poppies and mustard covering the hillsides, there are plenty more blooms to discover. Have you seen any of these 21 native wildflowers yet?

Mt. Diablo Audubon and Save Mount Diablo Birding Walk at Curry Canyon Ranch
Saturday, May 6
7:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Mount Diablo Audubon Society and Save Mount Diablo are partnering up for a hike on Save Mount Diablo's gorgeous Curry Canyon Ranch. This portion of Curry Canyon Ranch showcases beautiful rangeland ecosystems and valley oak and streamside habitat. We will be looking for busy song birds, grassland birds, woodpeckers, waterfowl, and raptors. You might even see a golden eagle or two! This is a chance to get to know the east side of Mount Diablo, a side that’s not normally open to the public. You’ll pass a beautiful valley with rolling hills as you walk along the creek, then transition into riparian habitat, where sun hardly breaks through the canopy of the trees.
