Dear Friends of Whole Grains,

Adding richness and depth to recipes with whole grains is one of the driving trends in the culinary world, and it's high time for everyone else to experience why. On Wednesday March 29, 2017, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 6th annual Whole Grain Sampling Day.  

More than 120 supermarkets across the US & Canada will be sampling whole grain products in their stores, and a handful of Boston-area restaurants will be offering menu samples to customers. Additionally, more than 55 college campuses are planning events for students. 

To find out if a store, restaurant, school, or community health center near you is participating, check out our Interactive Map. If you can't find a formal Whole Grain Sampling Day festivity near you, create your own celebration, simply by trying a different whole grain menu item at a restaurant, or making a recipe with a new-to-you ancient grain. Share your Whole Grain Sampling Day experience on social media using the hashtag #SampleWholeGrains.
WHY NUTRITION NUTS LOVE SOURDOUGH BREAD    

Foods made using artisan cooking and baking traditions, rather than factory processes, are being praised not just for their unmatched taste and quality, but also for their potential health benefits.  

NEW WHOLE GRAINS "MYTHS BUSTED" HANDOUT AVAILABLE 

Over the next few months, we'll be updating many of our free, downloadable whole grain handouts with a fresh design. The first handout we've completed is our popular Myths Busted Handout, which refutes many popular misconceptions about grains and wheat. 

NOT EATING ENOUGH WHOLE GRAINS LINKED WITH DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE, STROKE, & DIABETES

Using decades of data from US adults, researchers created models to estimate how many deaths from heart disease, stroke, or type 2 diabetes can be attributed to poor diet. They estimate that low intake of whole grains alone may contribute to 5.9% of deaths from these causes.
