Charlestown High School's
 "02129" Luncheon Series
The Charlestown Coalition has hosted a series of informational luncheons at Charlestown High for many years. On Fridays, the coalition provides a free lunch for students who live in Charlestown during designated lunch periods. It's an opportunity for us to engage, share information about local resources, and support the students.

This year, we are seeking volunteers from agencies who are willing to attend a luncheon to share their information with our youth. Our hope is that the students will learn about the great services and opportunities your organization has to offer--whether it be counseling, volunteering, after-school programming, tutoring, and college support and even job opportunities.

If you are interested in attending a future luncheon or if you have any questions, please contact our Youth Prevention Coordinator, Mswati Hanks .

If you are unable to attend a luncheon, but would like to share resources with our youth, feel free to send along your information to our Communication and Events Coordinator, Ginaya Greene Murray.

Raising the Next Generation
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay  and the Charlestown Coalition have teamed up to mentor the next generation of Charlestown youth. Don't miss your chance to be a part of this amazing initiative!

For Mentors : We are seeking Charlestown residents and workers, at least 18 years of age, who have the availability and passion to mentor, guide and encourage Charlestown youth. It's only a couple of  hours a month, but the time spent together will make a huge impact in the life of a teen, and on you!

For Youth: We are seeking Charlestown youth, ages 7-12 years old, who want someone to have fun with, learn from, and enjoy local activities with!

Please email, Michael Wright for more information!

Peace Park Clean-up
Thanks to the City of Boston Love Your Block grant, the Charlestown Coalition and our Turn It Around youth group have continued the upkeep of the Charlestown "Peace Park" at Mt. Vernon St. Plaza. This past month, the coalition got an extra set of hands, with volunteers from Harvard University helping out during our community clean-up day!

Turn It Around :
Youth of the Month

Precious U.

Precious is our August Turn It Around Youth of the Month!

This month's Youth of the Month is Precious! Precious has always been a consistent participant. She's never been the loudest, or most animated voice in the room, but she has always had a quiet grace about her.
This month we undertook an amazing art project based on the theme of Resiliency. Not only did Precious create one of the more unique and creative art pieces of the group, but her accompanying story about her own resiliency was both personal and powerful.

She's September's Youth of the Month because of the strength, maturity, and growth she has shown through this entire art project. Turn It Around is here as an outlet for these young people to have the space and freedom to reach their TRUE potential.

-Mswati Hanks (Youth Prevention
Coordinator)
