Kudos to the Community Foundation!
'Day of Giving' nets $560k
for 78 local non-profits

More than 1,300 donors dug deep into their wallets last week to help local charities on "Giving Tuesday," contributing nearly $487,000 in just 28 hours time.

The Whitefish Community Foundation added another $75,000 in matching funds to the pot, bringing the total raised in this one-of-a-kind event to $561,707 ... funds that will help support dozens of local non-profit organizations whose budgets are reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

WCF President Linda Engh-Grady said the Foundation was "amazed at the incredible generosity" of the Flathead Valley community during such a difficult and uncertain time, and recognized the Flathead Community Foundation, Glacier Bank and First Interstate Bank for their assistance in promoting the event and collecting donations.

Local distiller cooks-up
homegrown sanitizer
You've seen them popping-up all over the place ... those 3.4 ounce bottles of antiseptic hand rub being cranked out by -- who else -- the Glacier Distilling Company.

Like scores of other small distillers around the country, the team at Glacier Distilling responded quickly to the COVID-19 crisis -- and nationwide shortage of hand sanitizer it created -- by repurposing their 'still,' and cranking out sanitizing hand rub instead of whiskey, vodka and brandy.

While the hand sanitizer hoarding seems to have abated a bit, it's always a good idea to "shop local" ... and chances a good you're gonna be buying a bunch of sanitizer in the coming weeks and months.

With that in mind, marketing guru Nate Connors has put together a special "Whitefish Chamber Package" that includes a 1 gallon jug and six 100ml bottles of Glacier Distilling sanitizer for just $60; he'll also do a case of 20 100ml bottles for $70 if you prefer.

'Phishing' the 'Best of Whitefish' ... don't get caught!
Email scammers target local businesses

Internet scam artists are apparently trying to hijack the Whitefish Pilot's annual "Best of Whitefish" contest, attempting to lure local businesses into disclosing sensitive information by claiming that've won an award and need to claim their prize.

According to Pilot Editor Heidi Desch, businesses receive an email from a company claiming to be connected with the newspaper's "Best of Whitefish" contest.  The bogus email tells the recipient that their business has been named a "winner," and gives them the option to purchase an "award" by clicking on a website link.

"We want to warn business owners about this false email," Desch said, "and let them know that it is not connected with the Pilot's popular annual contest."

Voting is under way for the 2020 Brest of Whitefish Awards, she added, with winners to be contacted directly by employees of the Whitefish Pilot after the voting officially ends on May 24.  For more information, email Desch at  editor@whitefishpilot.com
