Historical Tidbit:

Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I.

Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.

Veteran's Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

Veterans Day occurs on November 11 every year in the United States. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veteran's Day.

Great Britain, France, Australia and Canada also commemorate the veterans of World War I and World War II on or near November 11th: Canada has Remembrance Day, while Britain has Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday of November).

In Europe, Great Britain and the Commonwealth countries it is common to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. every November 11.

Dr. Chris Jones: Inertia

"It is a double-edged sword. If we avoid difficult things, they get more difficult. If we take action, they become easier.

If we take small steps to improve, we find that it gets easier to take the more difficult steps and achieve at a higher level.

Inertia is a tool. We just need to make sure we are using it to our advantage so we experience the joy of accomplishment rather than the anxiety of standing still."

Climate Can Do:

Drinking Water Without Nano-plastics

Plastic water bottles are filled with tiny bits of plastic called nano-plastics. These are bits of plastic that have broken down so small we cannot see them. But they are there, according to studies by Consumer Reports, Columbia University, University of Missouri, and many others.

The best way to avoid drinking nano-plastics is to use a metal or glass reusable bottle and fill it with filtered tap water.

Reusable water bottles keep you healthy and decrease one major source of nano-plastics in our environment: the disposable water bottle.

Whitman Veteran of Foreign Wars Celebrate Witches Walk

This past weekend, the Whitman VFW Post 697, along with the American Legion Post 22, organized the annual Witches Walk, bringing together an estimated 300 witches for this Halloween celebration and fundraiser.

The Witches Walk has a rich history rooted in community bonding and lighthearted celebration of the spooky season. Originating as a small gathering, it quickly became an annual event cherished by all. The tradition encourages participants to dress in witch costumes and stroll through the town, symbolizing a playful embrace of Halloween while fostering community spirit. Prizes are awarded for first, second & third-best costumes.

After the walk, the witches gathered at American Legion Post 22 and enjoyed food, music, raffles, prizes and fun.

Happiness

"Happiness hides in the humdrum."

~ Paul Lynch, Prophet Song

"Happiness is not a goal, it is a by-product."

~ Eleanor Roosevelt

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be"

~ Abraham Lincoln

"Whoever is happy will make others happy." - Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

We share ourselves with others, be it happiness and joy or pain, fear, worry and sorrow; our words and actions impact those around us. Be mindful... what will you spread today?

Have a great weekend, All: my heartfelt thanks to our Veterans... including my dad, uncles, the mom of my grandchildren, and many dear friends. I hope we can work toward a world where we can war no more.
