The Whitman Food Pantry - Help When You Need It Most!
The food pantry assists people of need in the Town of Whitman. If anyone is in need they should call the food pantry at 781-447-8560. As we are managed by volunteers, if no one answers the phone, leave a message and someone will get back to you within a day or two. Callers need to be interviewed to see if they qualify for help, and then arrangements are made for them to pick up food.
Anyone looking to make a donation can do so by bringing directly to the food pantry at 44 Blake St Whitman. There are also donation boxes located at the town hall, the town library, the Congregational Church and at the lower chapel of Holy Ghost Church. We accept donations of non-perishable items only. We are always in need of hygiene items, dishwashing detergent, clothes washing detergent, paper products (individually wrapped) as these items are not covered by SNAP benefits. Donations of cash and gift cards from Stop and Shop or other supermarkets, Walmart and Target are greatly appreciated.
Donations of cash and gift cards can be brought directly to the pantry. We have volunteers at the pantry most Mondays through Saturdays from 830-1030AM.
Thanks and God Bless
Rick Clark

Historical Tidbit:
History of Little League
| |
Pictured: Carl Stotz with Harold "Major" Gehron and Jimmy Gehron.
In 1938, a man named Carl Stotz hit upon the idea for an organized baseball league for the boys in his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Carl had no sons of his own, but he often played ball with his young nephews, Jimmy and Major Gehron, and wanted a way to provide an organized program for them.
Carl gathered several of the neighborhood children and experimented with different types of equipment and different field dimensions during that summer. The program still did not have a name, and no games were played.
In 1939, Carl and his wife Grayce took the experiment a step further, enlisting the help of brothers George and Bert Bebble and their wives, Annabelle and Eloise, respectively. The three first teams were: Lycoming Dairy, Lundy Lumber and Jumbo Pretzel.
On June 6, 1939, in the very first Little League game ever played, Lundy Lumber defeated Lycoming Dairy, 23-8. Lycoming Dairy came back to win the season's first-half title, and faced second-half champ Lundy Lumber in a best-of-three series. Lycoming Dairy won the final game of the series, 3-2.
And the basic goal remains the same as it did in 1939, to give the children of the world a game that provides fundamental principles (sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork) they can use later in life to become good citizens.

Frederick Douglass Pathways Project Update
Planning continues for the Frederick Douglass Pathways Project, a proposed shared-use pathway connecting Weymouth to Bridgewater—and potentially beyond. Inspired by Frederick Douglass’s travels between New Bedford and Boston in his fight for abolition, the project aims to create a meaningful, regionally connected route for walking and biking.
The Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is working closely with community partners to advance this shared vision. East Bridgewater and Whitman have made strong progress, with Selectboards voting in support of further exploration, while Abington and Bridgewater are in the early stages of planning.
Stay tuned for upcoming meetings and opportunities to get involved in this exciting and impactful project.
Thanks for sharing!

Dr. Chris Jones – SEEing to Lead: Make Mistakes
You’re going to make mistakes.
Not once. Not twice. But over and over again. That’s not the problem.
The problem is when we:
Avoid them
Hide from them
Or worse—stop trying because of them
Mistakes aren’t signs of failure. They’re signs of growth in progress.
Every time you try something new, stretch, or lead, mistakes come with it. That’s the cost of becoming better.
So don’t aim to be perfect. Aim to be learning.
Reflect:
What’s one mistake you’ve made that actually helped you grow?

Whitman-Hanson Youth Soccer Players of The Week!
"Congratulations to our North Easton Savings Bank Players of the Week!
Ronan McBrine is our Boys Player of the Week. Ronan's coach called him a "stud defender." He anchored his team's defense, effectively stopping multiple scoring opportunities for the opposing team. Well done Ronan!
Lillie Kniffen is our Girls Player of the Week. Lillie scored multiple goals in her team's decisive win against Braintree. She also played lock down defense for her team in the second half. Great work Lillie!
Congratulations to Ronan and Lillie and a continued thank you to North Easton Savings Bank for sponsoring these posts."
(These are the Players of the Week for Week 2 (Saturday, 4/18 & Sunday, 4/19).

Mothers
"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." ~ Abraham Lincoln
"Mother's love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved."
~ Erich Fromm
"God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers."
- Rudyard Kipling
"To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow."
— Maya Angelou
"There's no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one."
— Jill Churchill
| |
The strength of my convictions, a gift from my mother. My moral compass and faith; gifts from my mother. Creativity, love of logistics and natural science; all gifts from my mother. I honestly could go on for another two paragraphs, a mother's gift of time and attention and love, live on in their children.
How perfect that Mother's Day is celebrated as all of creation is waking up!
~ Jacquie
