Principal's Message

Hello Families,

March can be a crazy, fun month at school. This month we are working on Cooperation and Teamwork. Students will be working with their Buddy Rooms to create and write a story. I will also be talking to students about cooperation by going in and doing a classroom activity where we create Quiet Critters and discuss how when we focus, we help our whole class or team be their best.

I would love to see you at the Multi-Cultural night at Rogers on March 13th from 5:00-8:00 pm. Whitman will have a booth and there will be performances and activities for the whole family. While we are Wildcats, we are part of the bigger community of Hillyard and Rogers High School. This will be a fun community event.

Academically we will be focusing on Reading and Lexia growth. We will be doing March Madness tied to reading. Students will be setting goals and winning tickets to enter drawings. Please encourage your child to do their best so they can grow in their reading skills. As always, we are thankful to be partnering with you to support your child. AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS

We have several clubs currently running and more starting this month!

Clubs are often for specific grade levels, so if you are interested in having your student participate, please reach out to their teacher to see if a permission slip could go home with them.

Young Club, Mondays from 3-4:15pm, 4th and 5th grade, 2/5-3/25

Lego Robotics, Tuesdays from 3-4pm, 3rd-5th grade, 2/13-3/26

Girl Scouts, Wednesdays from 3-4:30, all age girls, 9/20-6/5

Musical Exploration, Thursdays from 3-3:30, K-2nd grade +PARENT, 3/7-4/25

Multicultural Club, specific Thursdays, 3rd-5th grade, 11/16-6/6

MARCH LEXIA CHALLENGE

March is an exciting time for those that follow college basketball and March Madness! As our reading challenge of the month, we are excited to announce that we will be challenging Whitman students to a March Madness challenge of our own.

Classes will be competing against each other in a tournament bracket to become the champions of Lexia. Lexia is our adaptive computer program that guides students through foundational reading instruction. Our students spend 15-20 min. each day practicing reading skills, tailored to their individual needs, using Lexia. This month they will be able to contribute to their class’s success in our Lexia March Madness Tournament by completing as many units as they can each week. We can’t wait to see all we can accomplish when we work together as a team!
