First Week Bell Schedules

Students Go to Advisory at 8:00 AM on Monday
|
|
Monday August 22, all students will begin their day in Advisory. They will receive a new paper schedule to follow. This schedule will have changes from the schedule picked up at registration. Students should follow Monday's schedule; we are not able to make changes to the schedules or return to a previous version of the schedule. If there is a necessary correction, students should email their counselor or visit 120A.

Make-Up Yearbook &
ID Photos
|
|
Couldn't make it to registration? Need to still take your ID/yearbook photo? Make-up days are as follows:
Grades 7-11: Monday, August 29 during lunch periods in Blue House
Grade 12 (yearbook portraits only): October 18 - 20 (tentative) - appointments managed by HR Imaging. More information coming soon.
No appointments are needed. Students should go to the Blue House during their lunch block and take their photo. Parents can find more information at hrimaging.com.

Attendance Reporting Procedures
|
|
To report a student absent call the Attendance Voicemail and leave a message at 773-534-7500 option 2 before 9 am on the day of the absence and on each day of the absence.
Phone calls to report a student’s absence can only be reported by a parent or guardian and include the following:
a. Student’s full name and division
b. Date of Absence
c. Reason for absence
d. Parent’s daytime phone number
e. In case of student’s absence exceeding 3 days, parents are asked to call the Attendance Director, Ms. Bottari at 773 534 7500, option 2.
Early Dismissals
It is mandated by the District policy that students under 18 years of age can leave the school only when picked up by a parent or guardian. Students will not be dismissed if parent or guardian does not arrive to pick them up. Parents have to enter the school building and sign the student out in the Main Office. For students 18 and older leaving for doctor/dentist appointments, parents will be called and doctor’s note will have to be turned in on the following day to the Attendance Office.

Directory & Recruiter Opt-Out

Students/parents who do not want their information disclosed in a parent/student school directory and/or to college/military recruiters must review and return this form to the Main Office by Friday, August 26, 2022. Please contact Mr. Melvin Soto with questions.

Check and Verify Club Information
|

Check the club list and email Ms. Smith, kjkielnik@cps.edu, with:
(1) Any updated information for existing clubs. Please check that all information on the list is correct.
(2)If all information for your club is already correct, please send an email indicating there are no corrections to be made.
(3)If you would like to start a new club, email Ms. Smith.
Failure to email Ms. Smith by Wednesday, 8/24/22 will result in your club being removed from the list - which means your club will not be included in Club Fair/Open House/etc.
Once you confirm your club information, you will be given the information about Club Fair (Tuesday, 8/30/22) and Open House (Sunday, 10/16/22). You will need a poster board displaying information about your club for both events.

Young Company Fall Call-Out August 30

Are you an actor? A designer? An aspiring backstage techie?
COME JOIN US IN THE YOUNG COMPANY!
We will be calling out for all roles onstage and behind the scenes at our FALL INFORMATIONAL CALL-OUT MEETING on TUESDAY, AUGUST 30th after school in the Auditorium. Come find out what we'll be cooking up next, and join the company that brought you TRAP on our next storytelling voyage. We'll announce the fall production, discuss commitment requirements and roles available both onstage and behind it. Find out how to get involved this fall!

DANCE: Alumna ART on theMART
|
|
Art on theMART is the largest permanent digital art projection in the world, projecting contemporary artwork across the 2.5 acre river-façade of theMART. JASMIN TAYLOR, Whitney Young Alumna and Guys & Dolls member, is one of four commissioned Art on theMART artists for Chicago's 2022 'Year of Dance'. Please join the WY Dance Department to cheer on Ms. Taylor at her premiere Thursday, September 8th @ 7 PM.

Do you love solving math problems? Do you enjoy math competitions? Join the Whitney Young Math Team! We have won the City Championship thirteen years in a row and are looking forward to continuing our streak of success!
Please join us at our informational meetings in Room 279: 1) Thursday, August 25 from 3:30pm to 4:15pm for high school students and 2) Monday, August 29 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for Academic Center students. There will be snacks! We will also solve math problems and talk about this year's competition schedule.
Our practice schedule for the school year (starting August 30) is as follows. All practices will take place in Rooms 279 and 281:
Academic Center students: Mondays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm
Freshmen and sophomores: Tuesdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm
Juniors and seniors: Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm

Student Selected to the All-National Concert Band
|
|
Congratulations to Jacob Goroff who auditioned last spring and was recently selected to play clarinet in the 2022 NAfME All-National Concert Band. Jacob will travel to Washington, DC in November to rehearse and perform with the best musicians in the nation. We are proud that Jacob will be representing the Dolphin musicians at the national level!
