Sectional Champs and Statebound! Our Varsity Poms team is headed to the state semi- finals and finals the 4th best 2A team in the state with a great chance of coming back in the top 3 or winning it all! Please wish them the best of luck and remind them to “LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FLOOR”! Congratulations to all of the team members and coaches!

Would it be possible to ask parents or guardians picking up students to NOT park in crosswalks. I purposely park behind the "stop here" sign when I arrive, but each day another car pulls in front of me. This is dangerous for students using crosswalk and extremely inconsiderate and annoying to drivers...and it makes pulling out of the parking spot tough.

I agree. Parents and guardians, please be mindful of the crosswalk when picking up students in the afternoon. We want to keep all students safe at all times.

Will new NJHS and NHS inductees get any recognition in the Weekly or some other format?

Thank you for this reminder and congratulations again to all of the newest inductees in NJHS and NHS!

I was wondering if there are plans to have a winter dance this year. If not, could we plan one?

Student Council coordinates school-wide dances. Please connect with your class representative and/or a member of the Executive Committee to inquire and express your interest.

Mr. Harris is soliciting questions for the Whitney Young Weekly. He will select and answer questions each week. Note: By submitting your question, you agree that the question and answer will be published and sent to the whole school community. Not all questions will be able to be answered/published. Due to the popularity of Harris' Huddle, questions may take at least four weeks to be published. If you have an immediate concern, please contact the Main Office during regular school hours at (773) 534-7500.

Allyship Tip: Take Care of Mental Health

A new year brings a fresh opportunity for healthy habits. In 2023, make a resolution to take care of your mental health and support others in doing so. Here are 5 tips to help you start the year more mentally healthy:

  1. Acknowledge your feelings - Recognizing your emotions rather than ignoring them helps you work through difficult feelings.
  2. Engage your senses - Connecting with your body and the world around you can improve your mood and wellbeing.
  3. Prioritize Rest - Busy people often cut down on leisure activities and sleep. Taking breaks and time to recharge makes a huge difference for mental wellbeing.
  4. Make a connection - Reaching out to someone you care about helps their mental health and your own.
  5. Get support - You're not alone if you're having trouble! Support groups, help lines, and mental health professionals can make a huge difference when struggling with mental health.

Click here to visit the DEI website for more information and resources for each of these tips to improve your mental health.
