Can you find a way to make school lunch better?
I do not supervise the school lunch program. I can arrange for us to have a meeting with our lunchroom supervisor, Mr. Stanley Jones. You can express to him how you think he can make our lunches better. Please see me at your earliest convenience.
Why is the bridge over Jackson always locked directly after the end of the school day? It would be helpful to be able to cross the bridge when going to take the train or switching between after-school activities in different buildings.
We give students 15 minutes at the end of the day to clear to the buildings. If they are involved in an extracurricular activity they need to go to the area in which it occurs. All other students should vacate the building. The bridge doors on Jackson should be locked at 3:30 p.m. to allow students the 15 minutes to cross the bridge to get to the train.
The Arts Building is really cold. Is there anyway that the school can make it warmer?
There are 49 individual, regulated sensors/controllers associated with the Arts Building. If a teacher's room in intemperate, they only have to phone the engineer's office for us to make an adjustment. Keep in mind that while you may be in that room for a single period, that teacher will in all likelihood occupy that room all day and may not agree with your particular assessment of the temperature.
Since the shower pole has been removed from the boy's swim locker room, it has been difficult to shower when the gym class gets out of the pool. When will we be able to get a new shower pole? Also, there is a roach infestation in the boy's swim locker room. When will that be fixed?
Our exterminator visits our building every 2 weeks. We are working with the PE Department to furnish a schedule where all of the locks are removed from the lockers so that the technician can obtain access to those areas.
The District has revised the manner in which they authorize (and fund) repairs. That being said, multiple quotes have to be obtained and submitted for approval. We have submitted those quotes on the 13th of February and are still waiting for the purchase order to be issued. Our engineers have contacted a member of the District's facility team, and they are working towards expediting the process. We will be "correcting" the existing pole's orientation once the plumber is on hand, in case the associated piping does not agree with our efforts.
Lastly, would you allow someone to take money out of your wallet? Remember, vandalism costs all of us, not only in denying us beneficial usage of an item, but in reducing the funds available to use for other educational purchases and purposes.

Our Advanced Placement program has grown 25% in the past 5 years! Thus, we are in need of more proctors for our test dates. We need parents/guardians to volunteer their time to proctor the numerous amount of exams we will administer. My goal has always been for parents to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours during the course of a year. SOOOOOOO, if you have not fulfilled your 10 hour requirement please sign up to proctor these exams. Please contact Ms. Davis at
tldavis2@cps.edu to sign up. Thank you in advance.

For the past few years, the Whitney Young Track and Field Teams have been training on old high jump equipment. The pads were old and not large enough. Thanks to our FoWY grant, we were able to subsidize the purchase of a brand new one that is proper for our training! Did it pay off? It did! Jimi Taiwo heads to New York on March 13th to compete in the New Balance Nationals in the high jump! Thank you, Whitney Young Community and Friends of Whitney Young!
