Our Certamen teams had a dominant showing last Wednesday, competing at their first meet of the year. Opposing teams were fielded from St. Ignatius and Walter Payton. Our Novice team took first place, our Lowers team took third, and our Uppers team took first place as well. Let us all continue to work each day to ensure that EVERYONE feels welcomed, valued and safe.

I am declaring this week RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS WEEK! Write a note, buy a snack, etc. for someone just because! Let’s intentionally BE KIND!!

Intersectionality is a tool for understanding the complexity of identity. It is a framework for thinking about how identities overlap and combine when it comes to experiences of power and discrimination.

Coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw in the 1980s to discuss how Black women experience racism and sexism simultaneously, intersectionalty has come be be a tool to discuss how our identities all exist at once and impact how we move in the world.

This concept is an especially powerful tool for allies to use to become more aware of the ways in which power and oppression are nuanced and complicated. Click here to visit the DEI website for more resources to learn about intersectionality.
