Homecoming football game tickets are only available online. Game tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults.


  • Fan bus tickets are available for purchase in the School Store starting Monday, October 16.
  • Bus tickets do not include a game ticket (you must buy a game ticket prior to purchasing a fan bus ticket).
  • Bus tickets are $10 for a round trip bus ride to Rockne Stadium.
  • The fan bus will depart on Adams St. at 2:45 PM on Friday, October 20.
  • Only students with both a fan bus ticket and game ticket may leave their 8th block class at 2:45 PM. All others, including students with game-only tickets, do not leave class early and may depart at 3:15 PM on Friday, October 20.

The Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday, October 21 in the Whitney Young High School gymnasiums. Tickets are now on sale in the School Store during lunch periods (cash only).

  • Dance Ticket Cost: $10
  • Coat Check: $3 (coat check must be paid in advance when buying your ticket at the School Store)

The dress code for the Homecoming dance is semi-formal (which includes dresses, pantsuit, jumpsuit, heels, strappy sandals, dressy flats, loafers, oxfords, collared shirts with tie, sneakers okay).


Doors open at 7:00 PM and will close at 9:00 PM on Saturday. You must arrive by 9:00 PM. Guest forms are available in the School Store. A completed guest form is required to purchase a guest ticket. Guest permission forms will not be accepted at the door. The dance will end at 10:00 PM. Students must arrange to be picked up or depart the dance promptly at 10:00 PM.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS | We are in need of some parent volunteers for the entire duration of the dance. Parent volunteers will be helping out with coat check, monitoring the dance floor to prevent crowd surfing, and overall ensuring the dance runs smoothly. Attention seniors: As a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act, there is a significant overhaul of the processes and systems used to award federal student aid starting with the 2024–25 award year. For the 2024-2025 aid year ONLY, the FAFSA will open in December 2023. The exact date has yet to be determined by Federal Student Aid. The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid, which provides state aid to Illinois residents who are not eligible for the FAFSA, will open on the same day. Students and parents with Social Security numbers can and should create (FSA IDs). Students and parents can collect the following information in preparation for FAFSA completion:

New School Counseling Interns: Ms. Mendoza and Ms. Carter are the new school counseling interns for this school year. Ms. Mendoza works alongside Ms. Jimenez and Ms. Carter works alongside Ms. Nicholson. They are both at DePaul University receiving their masters in counseling. As school counselors in training they provide support with academics, social-emotional, and college & career readiness. Both Ms. Mendoza and Ms. Carter helps students apply academic achievement strategies, help students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills and support students with planning for post secondary options. Ms. Carter is at Whitney Young on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and Ms. Mendoza is there on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the counseling suite, 120A. Please feel free to stop by if you have any questions for them.

Testing Update: PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors

The Class of 2025 will sit for the PSAT/NMSQT on October 24, 2023. The test has moved to digital and all juniors should arrive to school with their school issued Chromebooks and approved calculators at 8:00 AM for testing. Students completed a digital readiness check on October 13th in Advisory/Homeroom and have access to a practice exam to help familiarize themselves with the digital format. Detailed test day instructions will be sent directly to student's CPS emails prior to test day.

Global Citizenship/Local Citizenship, Ethnic Studies, African American History & AP Comp students asked great questions and learned a lot!

IL State University & WY Orchestra Concert

The ISU Symphony Orchestra will be joining the WY Orchestras on our October 18 Concert. Join us for a performances by the WY Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the ISU Symphony Orchestra, and a GRAND FINALE with the ISUSO and WY Chamber Orchestras combined in an unforgettable performance of Arturo Marquez's Danzón No. 2!!
