When and how will we be able to see our school ID pictures?
If you took a photo at registration. HR Imaging will send you proofs in the coming weeks. You can purchase prints through HR Imaging's website hrimaging.com. The company has not yet confirmed make-up dates yet. Once determined, we will communicate the dates with you.
My son was to start driver education in March 2020 when CPS switched to remote learning. Driver education was cancelled. What is happening for driver education in 2020-2021? How can we move our son through the process to become a driver?
Response from Mr. Franken, PE Department Chair: CPS has not yet reopened the driving ranges nor do we know when they will open. Students either have to wait for the driving ranges to reopen or go through a private driving school if they don't want to wait. More information can be found on page 16 of the Rules of the Road booklet or at the IL Secretary of State website: www.cyberdriveillinois.com.
When will regular and/or senior photos be taken this year?
Grades 7-11 took their photos during registration. Make-ups for grades 7-11 will be held on Wednesday, November 4 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. HR Imaging will contact senior families directly to set up an appointment for senior portraits.
With the new block schedule, there are two days per week that my student has no classes, but is still expected to attend advisory in the middle of the day. This seems like a waste of time since nothing is done in his advisory other than taking attendance, and this time would be better spent for him to complete his homework. Can he be excused from advisory on the days when he does not have any classes?
Advisory was included in the modified schedule to provide an opportunity for addressing students’ social emotional needs and promoting connection to their homeroom teacher and peers during remote learning period. It is also designed as a time for taking care of organizational requirements, such as fire drills, etc. Since it is a part of a student’s day structure, attendance needs to be reported. On days when there are no activities in advisory, students are encouraged to use the time for independent study. On those days, teachers are asked to take attendance at the beginning of the period and allow students to study on their own for the rest of the time.

Auditions for Whitney Young's only a cappella club are the week of October 18th! The Young Voices will be starting their 4th year of student-led rehearsals, where we choose our own repertoire, work collaboratively, and perform for school events. Auditions will generally include a 30-60 second song of your choice, ear training, and sight singing (don't be discouraged to audition if your sight reading skills aren't the best, this is just to assess where you are and how we can help you in the future, if accepted). Second round of auditions, we will give you a song of our choice for you to learn by the date. Join our Google Classroom here or use the code 7hpekjh for more information and feel free to email Gabi Allemana or Angel Rodriguez at gallemana@cps.edu or arodriguez690@cps.edu with any questions, respectively.

September 15th - October 15th is National Hispanic Heritage month in the United States. Latinx identities are complex and varied, and there isn’t one singular word and life experience to encompass all of what it means to be Hispanic, Chicano, or Latinx. WY's Sunrise Movement Club
|
|
Hello Dolphins! We hope your school year is off to a great start! Sunrise Movement demands a new chapter in this country and encourages other groups in the climate and environmental movement to join us in speaking out. As climate activists, we imagine a world that looks nothing like our own, one where we stop climate change by transforming our whole economy. Now is not the time to stay on the sidelines. As high schoolers, we hold a lot of power. We want to make this movement as accessible to the youth as possible.
This school year, we will be starting a hub at Whitney Young. We will meet on Wednesdays after school to discuss various topics such as what Sunrise is, the Green New Deal, climate injustice in Chicago, and the change we can make as young people. Our Google Classroom code is nmpdky2. We hope to see you at our next meeting!
