Dear Whitney Young Magnet High School Community,
It is with tremendous pride that we congratulate you on being one of just 367 schools in the country to be named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. This historic accomplishment is now part of your legacy. It is a symbol to all that the students of Whitney Young Magnet High School are capable of excellence, and thanks to the support of their teachers and families, there is nothing they cannot achieve.
Success like this happens when talented educators, supportive parents, and involved partners work together to inspire and motivate children. We thank you for creating this one-of-a-kind school community at Whitney Young — one dedicated to building confident, lifelong learners who are prepared to work for and achieve their dreams.
Thank you for also keeping in mind the needs of the whole child. With your combined focus on rigorous academics and social-emotional learning, and your commitment to developing students’ problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, Whitney Young is succeeding in shaping curious, informed citizens who will be fully prepared for success in college, career, and community.
We congratulate your entire community on this outstanding achievement, and hope that the National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition affirms all of your hard work and bolsters the spirit of excellence that is at the heart of what is happening at Whitney Young. Please take time to celebrate this incredible milestone knowing you have made the entire city of Chicago very proud.
Sincerely,
Janice K. Jackson, EdD LaTanya D. McDade

Hispanic Heritage month began on the 15th of September, to mark the day of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, and it will continue until October 15. The purpose of this month is to celebrate and recognize the contributions that the LatinX community has made to this nation. About 16.7% of the United States population and almost a quarter of Whitney Young students are a part of the Latinx community so it’s only fitting that we acknowledge the importance this month. In the next few weeks Latinos Unidos will be providing fun and informative facts to celebrate Latinx contributions and culture. Please email: sbgarcia1@cps.edu with any questions. Thank you and GO DOLPHINS!
