Holiday Happenings With Centre Square Fire Co.

Centre Square Fire Company will help welcome the holidays with two events in the next week.

This Saturday, December 2, Centre Square is hosting Lunch With Santa. Children can share their wish list with Santa and parents can take photos.

Next Saturday, December 9, Santa will tour the Township with the help of his friends at Centre Square and the Police Department. The visit begins at 10 a.m. Listen for the sirens to know that Santa is approaching.

Please Bag Leaves For Pickup

The Public Works Department reminds residents that leaves must be bagged for collection and not raked to the curb.

The next leaf collections are December 11 and December 26 for residents who live on the south side of Skippack Pike and December 13 and December 27 for residents on the north side of Skippack Pike.

The Township's collection process does not involve vacuum trucks that clean up piles of loose leaves. Leaf piles cause safety issues, clog storm drains and block street sweeping.

Recycle Holiday Lights

The EAC will be collecting the holiday lights from December 1 to January 30 and transporting them to centers that will recycle the materials. Help us help Whitpain be more sustainable by dropping off your old light strings, thus keeping them out of our landfills.

The drop off box is in the Police Department Lobby at the Township Building on Wentz Road.

From The EAC: Sustainable Holiday Gifts

As the holiday season approaches, many of us are thinking about stocking stuffers and other small gifts. This year why not give gifts that are sustainable? Here are some gift ideas:

Wool dryer balls: Reduce your drying times, soften clothes, reduce static and eliminate the use of throwaway dryer sheets.

Laundry detergent sheets: Replace liquid detergent in plastic containers

Cloth napkins: Replace throwaway paper napkins

Reusable produce and grocery bags: Reduce use of throwaway single use plastic bags

Silicone baking mats: Replace parchment paper and aluminum foil

Stretchy silicone bowl, cup and can lids: Cover leftovers without using throwaway plastic wrap or aluminum foil

Aluminum water bottles: Carry reusable bottles instead of buying plastic single use water bottles.

Bamboo toothbrushes:

A sustainable alternative to plastic toothbrushes

Lotion, shampoo & conditioner bars: Move away from all those plastic containers we use for hair and body care. Look for sample bar packs that allow trying out various options.
