Who, What, Where, and The Weekend

I hope this email finds you well as we head into what may prove to be a rainy weekend . As my Friday emails always do, I’ll share the DOT’s traffic advisory , the MTA Weekender , and let you know that Alternate Side Parking Regulations will be in effect . However, this is the first time in New York’s history (predating me by quite a few years) that you can be advised that early voting starts tomorrow!

If you choose to vote early, find out who you can vote for , what you can vote for , and where you can vote .  

To put it mildly, not everyone is as revved up about early voting as I am, and I’m aware that other things are happening. For example, in our district, the BKCB6 Landmarks/ Land Use Committee met and conditionally approved an application for a Certificate Of appropriateness (C of A) at 633 2nd Street , Park Slope Historic District . That application will come before us on November 13 th at our general board meeting along will items anticipated from the upcoming Permits & Licenses meeting . 

There is also a lot happening across our district to celebrate Halloween starting as soon as tonight with the 5 th Avenue Business Improvement District’s Halloween Bar Craw l . Tomorrow, Saturday, October 26 th , we’ll have celebrations in  Carroll Park ,  P.S 15 , Thomas Greene Playground , window painting on court street , and a Haunted Walk in Prospect Park . On Sunday, October 27 th , the Urban Meadow hosts its annual parade , and the Old Stone House will host a costume contest and mini-parade .

The celebrations don’t end when the weekend is over. On Tuesday, October 29 th , the 7 th Annual Barnacle Parade , remembering Superstorm Sandy (the ravages of climate change are scary without the need of a costume), will march down Van Brunt Street . If you plan on being part of it, get there early (3:15 pm) and check out Portside’s unveiling of Sandy’s high watermark . On Halloween itself, Thursday, October 31 st , in Park Slope, the Civic Council hosts its annual parade while the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music becomes the Con-spook-atory . Cobble Hill will also have a parade while in Carroll Gardens, Scotto’s keeps a tradition alive .

Having started where I usually conclude with info on trains, traffic, and parking I’ll change it up by saying welcome to all the new subscribers.
