Honoring the Male Caregiver
The number of male caregivers nationwide is 47%, yet many people still think of caregiving as primarily done by women. We share this interview between award-winning author and eldercare consultant Frances Shani Parker and her longtime friend Frank Gasiorek. Frank was the primary caregiver for his mother until her death.

Frances Shani Parker's book, Becoming Dead Right: A Hospice Volunteer in Urban Nursing Homes is available in paperback and e-book editions at online and offline booksellers. Learn more about Frances' work at www.francesshaniparker.com.
Update from Caregiver Kanu (KC) Mehta:
Panel on Housing Options
"I was a panel member on the recent webinar, “Aging-In-Place and Senior Housing Options” organized by the National Chrysler Retirement Organization (NCRO) and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B. NCRO has 5,000 Chrysler retirees as its members.

"Many times, we face an unplanned and unexpected situation and we try to deal with or manage as best we can. Most of our actions at that time are gut based due to the suddenness of the events unfolding. As time passes and we come to accept the reality, we look back and reflect on what we did and why."

KC has been caring full-time for his wife, Sumi, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2013. Learn more about his caregiving journey here, or watch the housing session here. Kanu's comments can be heard at time marks 18:50, 46:00 and 1:15.
