Dear Asbury Friends,
In 2018, I remember going to see a documentary on the life and ministry of Fred Rogers.  Fred was a Presbyterian pastor, whose ministry was focused on television for children.  Through stories, puppets, and conversation, he was able to convey the gracious and loving message of the gospel to children.  This Thanksgiving, the film "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," starring Tom Hanks, will be released.
So it seems like a perfect time to offer a sermon series on the spirituality of Mr. Rogers.  During the next three weeks of worship, we will talk about the life lessons that Fred Rogers taught, and the way they were deeply rooted in the gospel.  Much of the teaching and preaching of Jesus focused on "neighbors" and how we are to treat one another.  This weekend, we will be asking the question, "Who is my neighbor?"
I also want to offer a friendly reminder to turn in your "Estimate of Giving Card" to Phyllis Williams in the church office.  The Finance Committee will soon begin to set our budget for 2020.  Knowing what giving we can count on helps us to plan a budget that reflects our commitment to be good stewards.
So many wonderful things are happening at Asbury!  Our ministry with children and youth continues to grow.  We already have two mission trips scheduled for next summer.  We continue to give hope and housing to homeless families.  We are energized with music in worship that is outstanding.  And we do all of this in a place where progressive and inclusive Christianity is practiced and preached...
