Know for sure — plan ahead.
Social Security benefits seem pretty simple. If you want the most income and least penalties, start benefits when you’re eligible or when you’re fully retired, whichever comes first. But life has a way of complicating things when it comes to beneficiaries. Do you have a previous marriage, are you remarried, or do you have children not from a marriage? In those cases (and others), it’s critical to consult with a Social Security professional early enough that you don’t limit your options down the road.
Talking with an experienced CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional can help you understand the rules, how they apply to your situation and what you’ll need to do to prepare.
