Columbus, Ohio - Who's Who In Black Kansas City� is pleased to announce that Carrie E. Stapleton has joined the team as the new associate publisher for the inaugural edition.

Stapleton, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, has owned her own public relations firm for the past 24 years, Phillips-West Public Relations and Communications. She has been a solid media force in the city and has given voice to many throughout her journalistic career.
Holding a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kansas State University, Stapleton began her career as a general assignment reporter for The Salina Journal. She also worked as a columnist and assistant women's page editor, where she oversaw the layout of the Journal's four-page section.
Continuing her career in communications, Stapleton held such positions as coordinator of public relations for the Kansas City, Missouri School District, speakers bureau director for the Heart of America United Way, director of public relations for the Black Archives of Mid-America and was the public relations assistant to former Jackson county executive, the late Bill Waris, before opening her firm in 1988.
At the Black Archives, Stapleton completed her first historic venture, serving as project manager for the first Kansas City exhibition of the Emancipation Proclamation, the landmark document that freed our nation's slaves. This assignment was given to her by the late Horace Peterson, founder of the Black Archives. He was also the inspiration around the Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District.
Stapleton has been involved in such organizations as Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Group (Centurions) and the Minority and Women's Coalition that includes the Minority Contractors Association of Greater Kansas City, Kansas City Hispanic Association Contractors Enterprise, Women in Construction and Women Construction Owners and Executives. She has also been a part of the Children's Emergency Fund of Jackson County, Mayors Emanuel Cleaver and Kay Barnes' Kansas City Fast Forward committees, former board member YWCA, former board member of the Kansas City Museum and Kansas City Ballet, Coda Jazz Fund Board member, Urban Youth Theater Advisory Committee, MARC Citizen Engagement in Kansas City committee, the Centennial Committee for the NAACP and serves as the chairman of the board of the Kick It at Swope Advisory Board, a program that researches and helps African Americans kick the habit of smoking, a partnership with the University of Kansas Medical Center.
