 Congratulations to
Nashville Singers co-founder and baritone singer
HARLAN WILSON
for being selected the best barbershop baritone singer of all time by the Barbershop Harmony Society, as reported in the January/February 2016 of
The Harmonizer
. In addition, he was the only unanimous choice from the judges.
His legendary quartet, the SUNTONES, was inducted into the Barbershop Harmony Society's Hall of Fame and was not at all short on talent. SUNTONES tenor singer Gene Cokeroft shares the top tenor of all time spot with Vern Reed of the famed Buffalo Bills, known for their contributions to Meredith Willson's The Music Man. Each of the SUNTONES lead singers Bob Franklin and Drayton Justus also made the top 10 lead list.
The Top 10 basses have yet to be announced.
You can read the full story online at this link.

Video of the Week
As part of our tribute to
Harlan Wilson
and his recent honor
, here's a newly discovered video of Harlan performing with the Suntones on the Jackie Gleason Show.
The Suntones
were regulars on the show when it was based in Miami. Bruce Cokeroft's dad,
Gene Cokeroft
can be seen and heard singing the tenor notes, and likely arranged this piece for the Jackie Gleason Show.

Raising Spirits and Lifting Hearts Through Music
The
Nashville Singers are donating our time today to present a lunchtime performance for the
Sunny Day Club at West End United Methodist Church.
The mission of The Sunny Day Club is to provide social interaction, stimulation and friendship in a caring, safe environment for those experiencing early stages of memory loss, as well as provide respite for the caregivers.
Sunny Day allows the caregiver a known block of time that they can count on to run errands, grocery shop, rest, etc. just to keep the household going. The members who come get a social outing, physical and mental exercise, acceptance as well as new friends. The volunteers recieve their gift through the giving of their time and watching the joy on the faces of the members, which is priceless.
The Sunny Day Club meets on Mondays from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
For more information about this ministry, please contact Erin Racine at 615.321.8500 or

Volunteers Rock!
Members of the Nashville Singers advisory and governing boards braved the elements early last week to discuss strategies and ideas to help us fulfill our mission. Special thanks to
Michael Thompson and newcomer
Vicki Lea for some great ideas. Organizations like the Nashville Singers could not reach our objectives without the help of volunteers.
If you are interested in being considered as a candidate for membership on the Nashville Singers Advisory Board, our online application is available by clicking on the link shown here

Meet Some Of Our Recent Guests
|
|
|
Dick and Brian Nelson (L to R)
This father and son stopped by last week after being invited by Dann Zehr. They both spent many years singing barbershop harmony in Virginia.
Brian went on to tour with
Trick Pony
for nine years as band leader and drummer, and later backed up country singer
Tracy Byrd
.
Liana Jonas describes Trick Pony as
Elvis
-style rock meets contemporary country music.
Brian spent the first half of our meeting singing lead and then transitioned to bass
|
|
Trudy Riggs
Through our partnership with
Hands on Nashville
, we came to meet Trudy who expressed interest in helping us as a volunteer.
She came to our rehearsal last week, wasted no time, and armed with a laptop, proceeded to do a great job of updating our mailing list with recent concert attendees.
An organization like the Nashville Singers could not function without volunteers like Trudy. If you are interested in volunteering your time to support our mission to enrich lives through singing and the support of music education, please email
