Anyssa A.: On the journey to becoming a counselor

As a teenager in rural Minnesota, Anyssa A. found a therapist to help her deal with the mental health challenges she faced then. She remembers thinking, “Wow, this is a job? This is so cool!”

Today, she is on track to becoming a therapist herself. Being a volunteer receptionist at Walk-In is an important role along the way. “I learn from every single clinic,” she says. Read more

We always need volunteers!

And free counseling is available at Walk-In every weekday, but many people who need us don't know that. Please forward this newsletter or an Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn post to a friend.

2022 annual report with special 2023 update

After three years of virtual-only clinics, the re-opening of in-person clinics at the house at 2421 Chicago Ave. has been a huge event for us.

We want to thank all of our volunteers and donors for keeping our services available through a topsy-turvy time. And we want to recognize the volunteers who have been staffing in-person clinics MWF 1-3 pm since January. So we have added a special 2023 update - with photos of in-person volunteers included -- to the 2022 annual report. To check out the report, click here.

Mental health tips:

Ways to cope with anxiety

Anxiety can affect anyone, but some of us struggle with it more than others. This article contains helpful advice to counter "catastrophizing."

One psychotherapist uses mindfulness to help with anxiety. He writes here about helping millennials.

And while tips can help, you don't have to struggle alone with stress, anxiety, and relationship problems. Walk-In Counseling Center is available every weekday during clinic hours. In-person and virtual counseling are available. Click here to get counseling (during our clinic hours, of course). For Spanish services, call (612) 870-0565 x 2.

Outreach at Open Streets

Thank you to board members Pat Layton and Glenn Hirsch for staffing an outreach table at Open Streets on East Lake Street in June!

If you'd like to help staff a table sometime this summer or fall, please send an email to hmartens@walkin.org.

Please don't unsubscribe! You're receiving this newsletter because you signed up or donated on our website. Email is by far the most cost-effective way for us to keep in touch with our volunteers, friends and supporters. If you wish to receive this newsletter quarterly instead of monthly, or receive only the Volunteer Voice (for current and recent volunteers), please reply to this email with "quarterly" or "Volunteer Voice only" in the subject line. Or if we have added you in error, please accept our apologies and click "unsubscribe."
