Due to the fluctuations in our economy over the last few years, we, as candy distributors, have seen several new variations in packaging and count sizes of our items. Manufacturers are making these adjustments to smaller sizes and the same cost in an effort to keep their sweets affordable and still allow for an increased profit margin. According to a recent article in Candy & Snack Wholesaler, total candy and gum sales increased by 5.7% in a fifty-two week span ending on January 22, 2012. In the face of lower household incomes, down 1.5% since 2011 per CNN, consumers seem to be seeking an affordable indulgence to sweeten their daily lives. In this age of 'extreme coupon' shopping, we are seeing customers spending more time in search of the best value for their money. By stocking several count sizes in the same item, we allow our patrons to comparison shop and make the best decision for their budget and occasion. By continuing to provide these economical indulgences in a consumer friendly manner, we can anticipate a continuation of this upward rise.
