DARRIN HENSON AND KEITH WASHINGTON TEAM UP TO ANSWER TIMELESS QUESTION
“WHY DO GOOD GIRLS LIKE BAD BOYZ?”
IN HIT MUSICAL STAGEPLAY
DETROIT -Movies are made about it, reality shows are based on it, countless authors write books on the subject and therapists get rich from it. It’s the all too familiar saga of good girls falling for bad guys.
We see it plastered on the front cover of tabloids, and talk shows have millions tuning in to see it. It’s that never ending topic that no one can ever seem to sum up. It’s just something we know, will always be. Whether it’s “Titanic’s” Rose & Jack, Bonnie & Clyde, or Whitney & Bobby, somehow these opposites seem to hopelessly attract.
And “good girls liking bad boys” is not just merely something we read about in books or see played out on the big screen. Every day, down home, run of the mill good girls are getting drawn into the notion that “naughty is nice.” Whether it’s the ruthless rough neck or the relentless rebel, women run to them in relationships despite the risks or repercussions.
Now, this reality is reaching into the recesses of mainstream America with the highly successful, top-grossing, long-running urban stage play “Why Do Good Girls Like Bad Boyz?”. After more than a decade, this timeless production is gracing Detroit’s Music Hall stage for a limited engagement, just in time for Mother’s Day.
“Why Do Good Girls like Bad Boyz?” was originally written in 1995 by Angela Barrow-Dunlap and Lizzie J. Berry. Barrow-Dunlap is urban theatre’s leading lady and was the mastermind behind many nationally touring hit musicals including “Church Girl”, “My Brother Marvin”, “If These Hips Could Talk”, “Real Men Pray”, “My Sweet Potato Pie” and “I Won’t Be the Other Woman”. Barrow-Dunlap shares, “The play is infused with my personal experience, but my story isn’t rare, and that’s why it makes such an impact. I want my work to matter, and this play truly empowers women from the stage, one laugh and one tear at a time. It still gives me goose bumps after all these years.”
Leading this stellar cast is Darrin Dewitt Henson (Soulfood & Stomp the Yard); Keith Washington (Soulful Balladeer); Wanda Nero-Butler (Gospel Recording Artist); Terrell Carter (Meet The Browns, Madea’s Family Reunion); David Whitfield (NAACP Image Award Winning Actor); Pam Taylor (from Gospel Duo Pam & Dodi); Bill Hill (Def Comedy Jam); and Teisha Lott-Brown (R&B Group Brownstone).
