Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It's official: I am launching my campaign for re-election to City Council. My paperwork is filed, and I'm all in!

I've posted a "Why I'm Running for Re-Election" statement on my website: check it out here.
I'm honored that many Del Mar residents have already endorsed my candidacy. Many of these early endorsers are actively serving Del Mar as community volunteers, on advisory committees, on DRB or Planning Commission, on nonprofit boards, and more. Many are former mayors and councilmembers. It takes all of us, working together, to make Del Mar the special place we all treasure.
I'm also pleased to report that two key regional leaders, U.S. Congressmember Mike Levin, who so ably represents Del Mar in Congress, and State Assemblymember Chris Ward, our current representative in Sacramento, are also early endorsers of my candidacy. We need a great working relationship with our regional, state and federal leaders to achieve our most challenging goals.

Working together – residents and business owners, community volunteers and elected officials – we can succeed in meeting Del Mar's urgent and important goals.

My priorities include
  • getting the tracks off our bluff, with a tunnel alignment that has minimal impact on our lagoons and protects our neighborhoods, and in the meantime, securing a safe, legal beach access across the tracks;
  • undergrounding utility wires to enhance neighborhood safety, aesthetics, and views;
  • resuming work on the Shores Park master plan;
  • responsibly addressing sea level rise;
  • fostering sustainability;
  • meeting affordable housing mandates consistent with community goals;
  • maintaining infrastructure through street paving and the like; and
  • strong public participation in review of major development projects.
Those who know me know:
I have deep roots in Del Mar. I bring a "deep dive" approach to complex issues. I have a proven track record finding practical solutions while respecting divergent viewpoints. I work effectively with a wide range of regional leaders (such as Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer, pictured here), to achieve Del Mar's interests.

In this campaign, I'm asking for your vote. In return, I pledge to listen, to be civil to all, and to work hard every day for Del Mar.

With best regards,

Dwight Worden
Mayor
