Hello,
I'd like to tell you why I'm supporting Natasha Guynes to be the next councilwoman from Baltimore's 10th District. Put quite simply, she is one of the most remarkable people I know, and her background and experience will make her the ideal advocate for the priorities of these proud communities.
Natasha was born into extreme poverty and, as a child, endured unimaginable physical and emotional abuse. Her early adulthood was one of exploitation, addiction and homelessness. These would have been insurmountable hurdles for most people to overcome; for many, they would have been a death sentence.
Natasha was different. She overcame these devastating circumstances by entering recovery and going back to school. Against all odds, she secured a job in Washington, DC, and eventually became a trusted aide to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Following her successful career on Capitol Hill, Natasha established a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving young women from the same deadly cycle of abuse, exploitation and addiction that she endured. Today, the HER Resiliency Center is literally saving lives each and every day, and Natasha is nationally-renowned as one of our country's most important advocates for the empowerment of women.
In short, Natasha Guynes kept getting knocked down, time and time again. However, she kept getting back up in order to fight another day.
Natasha never stopped believing in herself.
Natasha never stopped believing that better days were ahead.
Even in her toughest times, Natasha never stopped looking out for other people.
The story of Natasha Guynes is the story of Baltimore
. Her life story makes her ideally suited to serve a district reeling from the very same problems she overcame. Meanwhile, her experience in the highest levels of government and social justice advocacy have given her the tools to bring true, meaningful change to a district that has been overlooked and underserved for way too long.
