DEA Alert: Scam Targeting Medical Professionals
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is warning medical practitioners of a growing scam involving fake letters and phone calls from individuals posing as DEA agents. These scammers claim the recipient is under investigation, in an attempt to steal personal or financial information.
Key Reminders:
· The DEA does not contact registrants by phone regarding investigations.
· DEA agents are forbidden from asking for payment, gift cards, or personal information.
· Legitimate contact will be made in person or by official letter.
If you receive a suspicious call or letter: · Report the incident to the FBI at ic3.gov.
· Submit the incident to the Federal Trade Commission, which takes reports at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and shares information with more than 3,000 law enforcement agencies at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. · If you have shared personal information, visit identitytheft.gov to learn how to protect against identity theft.
