Your Grand Stand Alert

May 2025

Hello Networkers:

How many times have we asked ourselves why the AR weapons are

allowed in this country? How many times has the 2nd Amendment

come back as an argument for having a military, rapid fire weapon

that has killed many of our young people? We refer to it as a

"weapon" because its characteristics, marketing

and history have shown us that it is.

The AR-15 rifle first was developed for the military in the 1950s. A version of this particular gun , capable of automatic and semiautomatic fire, was adopted by the U.S. military in the 1960s and named the M16. Today, a civilian, semiautomatic version of the AR-15 has become the most popular rifle in America.

Civilians today own more than 20 million AR -15s, according to industry estimates. It has become this popular because the gun manufacturers chose willingly as part of their marketing strategy to market it in a manner stressing its "military" status and they appealed to an audience of younger men by saying a purchase of the firearm issued them "their man card".

The reality is that the gun industry needed a new product

to market to boost sagging sales and they did so

at the expense of the American people.

We will never accept that this weapon belongs in a civilized society, and applaud the efforts over the years to ban assault weapons and hold the industry accountable for its reckless advertising of these weapons. We ask you to join us today in the initiative below.

Assault Weapons - No Place in a Civilized Society

The Assault Weapons Bill (the bill of the late Diane Feinstein) has been reintroduced by Senator Adam Schiff. After years of effort and walking the halls of Congress, the bill passed the House in 2022. As we see the public support for this chaotic administration starting to decline , we believe we can pass this bill by continuing our advocacy and calling our legislators.

We now want to call Senator holdouts that cosponsored the bill last Congress. We will also call Freshman House members who ran on banning assault weapons.

These calls are easy, people are friendly, and they are logged so our legislators can be made aware of their constituents' priorities. You can call even if you are not in their district.

If you wish, you can TAKE ACTION before you make calls,

use this easy form to tell your representative and senators

to ban assault weapons NOW!

Thank you.

We thank each of our networkers for their efforts. Each time you add your voice to the calls, we get three or four co-sponsors on these bills, and that is the only way to bring them forward to a vote.

Every year in America over 45,000 lives are lost to gun violence.

Be part of the solution.
