How Endeavor Helped Me and Why I Recommend It for You

A letter from Pablo Mejia, MCAS '19

Greetings!

Halfway through the fall semester of my sophomore year, I realized that I still had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life and I had very little knowledge about what the professional environment looked like. If this sounds familiar, keep reading.

I knew that it was partly my doing. I had never gone to the Career Center and had never sought out help regarding the job search process. A friend told me about Endeavor, and I did not know if I wanted to cut my winter break short for it. However, a few friends of mine signed up and I figured, why not? At the best, I would find my passion/dream job. At the worst, I would make my parents happy and feel good that I made some sort of effort.
Throughout the three days, there were many experiences that I found to be extremely valuable. I discovered that I enjoyed working with people and on teams. Through listening to alumni, I found that the jobs that most appealed to me were the ones that didn’t limit you to a desk, but allowed you to travel, attend events, and continuously engage with others.
I was encouraged to bridge the connection between what I liked and what I was good at. I began to see a clearer picture about my career path. It was refreshing to learn that my major wouldn’t limit me to a specific industry, so I decided to stop overanalyzing my major and what jobs “made sense”.

Endeavor was the turning point in my career search. For the first time ever, I felt confident and excited about what the professional world had to offer. I began to take classes about communication, planning, design, marketing, and electives that interested me. Ultimately, through a real estate elective, I realized that the real estate development industry had all the components that I found appealing in a career. However, had it not been for my experiences in Endeavor, I do not believe I would have had the ability to rethink my approach to the job search process.

I highly recommend you participate in Endeavor because it gives you a glimpse into the professional world, it lets you hear from alumni who were once in your shoes, and ultimately, makes you think about what type of career would bring you joy.

Best,
