Pickleball—an addictive combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong—the fastest growing sport in America and the WROC! It is fun, social, easy to learn, and relatively inexpensive requiring a paddle, court, net, and a ball.
But why are the holes in the pickleball ball such a big deal? Indoor pickleballs have 26 larger holes, while outdoor ones have 40 smaller holes. The number of holes makes the ball weigh differently and affects how it moves through the air, how fast it goes, and the spin of the ball. Spin is critical to pickleball strategy, allowing players to add curves and control shots. Without these round imperfections, this colorful sphere would not travel in a true line but would fly upward, downward, or sideways. Because the ball is imperfect it has more power.
We all have imperfections. Like the pickleball ball, we are full of holes. Thankfully, we do not have to be perfect before God can use us. We do not have to have life all figured out before we can help someone else. Despite imperfections, God uses us to carry out good things for his people. Certainly, God could choose to work around us but instead chooses to work in us and through us to bless others.
Our power works best in weakness, like the pickleball ball. When we put our trust in God, He can use every imperfection, cover it with his grace and use it for his glory! His great power flows through us: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV.
