Climber summiting Mount Everest to benefit cancer center

Cokie Berenyi is planning to summit Mount Everest in 2020. Along the way, she’ll be raising $1 million to fund a new mobile health unit for MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. The goal is to provide increased access to treatment throughout the state and promote outreach, education and screenings.

“I want to have an impact. Whether that’s growing awareness or getting $1 closer to a cure or cutting-edge research that leads to further developments," she says.

Bernadette Mouzon knows a thing or two about challenge and determination. Her strength came in handy when she was diagnosed with cancer and received a unique chemotherapy treatment called HIPEC.

Leaving a Legacy: MUSC, Hollings doctor to retire after 36 years

Joseph "Buddy" Jenrette will retire from the only career he has known – 36 years as a radiation oncologist at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. “It's been my life for the longest time,” he says. “It's been a great career for me, working with the people that I have and helping build programs. This has been really remarkably nice.”

Hollings, newest clinical scholar, Dr. Antonio Giordano researches novel triple-negative breast cancer treatments. “It's exciting and will allow me to dedicate part of my work to cancer research,” he says. “I think it's nice for patients to know that their doctor is also involved in finding the new possible cure.”

Congratulations to Dr. Wenjian Gan, a recent recipient of the Hollings' Idea Award. The purpose of this award is to stimulate the development of high-quality, innovative cancer research projects that will move forward to extramurally funded grant awards.
