Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services published its CARES payment information page for long-term care providers. The portal is currently open for providers to apply for funding. This $100 million in funds for these payments were provided to the State under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

AHCA/NCAL recently put together a webinar recording on economic impact payments (EIPs) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and important facts for skilled nursing facilities, ICFs/IID, and assisted living communities to know on the use of them. IRS began issuing electronic EIPs on or about April 15 to people who received a tax refund electronically.

Guidance on adult day services, care centers, programs, and adult pre-vocational programs has been posted to the DHS COVID-19 Long-Term Care Facilities page. These programs are at increased risk for COVID-19 transmission because there is increased risk when multiple people gather and interact. The guidance provides considerations related to capacity, spatial separation, physical distancing, infection control practices, and staffing.

A recent study released by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) shows that more than half of assisted living communities with less than a two-week supply of specific PPE and detailing the struggle to find these vital supplies. While more than 70 percent have asked for help from state and local health agencies, many are still forced to reuse PPE or rely on homemade supplies.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting assisted living occupancy, according to new data from the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC), which said assisted living properties saw a 0.9 percentage point decline to 85.2 percent stabilized occupancy in May 2020 in the nation’s largest 31 metropolitan areas.
